Hitch Plug advice
Just wondering - is there anything I can do to stop thieves from taking my black Lexus hitch plug from the receiver? The plastic plug isn't long enough to use one of those locks, and I don't just want to leave the receiver open and risk rust. Any suggestions? I'm going to get a third one to replace the last one stolen. Thanks!

While you cannot stop someone who is determined from taking the hitch cover; I found that by wrapping black electrical tape or black duct tape around the square section of the hitch cover plug until it is a very tight fit in the receiver that my cover would no longer "walk away". It takes only one or two passes of tape to make it tight. Prior to my "mod", my local dealer always gave me a new cover when ever the previous one disappeared from their stash in the service area without charge. Good Luck!

I'm on my 3rd one in less than a year too...
I just assumed like you are, that people were taking it- but I think I may have discovered what was happening. Every once in a while, I take my rig to one of those places that washes your car inside and out. The last time I was there, I watched my car go through the wash, and was surprised to see that when the brushes came around the back, they caught on the hitch cover, and pulled it out. I bet my other 3 covers are sitting on the bottom of the carwash someplace.
It could also be that your receiver is just getting loose, and falling off on the freeway. Try the mod that the person above mentioned, and it should help.
