Pros and Cons of a 04-06 LX470
Hello there,
I am considering getting a LX470 (may complete my lexus family!)
I was wondering what are the pros/cons versus the Toyota land cruiser and/or Nissan Patrol versus the LX?
How's the maintenance like, any problems to be aware of besides major general maintenance?
Any advise would be appreciated.

Not a comprehensive list, but off the top of my head:
LX470 pros:
1. AHC suspension has much better ride than standard Land Cruiser as well as different damping settings and the ability to lower raise ~2" up or down from the neutral driving position.
2. Much better Mark Levinson sound system (compared to Land Cruiser)
3. Better leather and more comfortable seats than Land Cruiser
4. More sound deadening and isolation compared to Land Cruiser (as evidenced in a thread on ih8mud if you care to look)
5. Real wood trim instead of fake plastic trim in the Land Cruiser
6. Real leather stitched door card grab handles vs. cheap feeling/looking vinyl on the Land Cruiser
7. More available options/gadgets if you get a fully loaded one (night vision if you're into that kind of thing as well as rear entertainment system although this might have come on some Land Cruiser models as well)
LX470 cons (vs standard LC100 series)
1. AHC can be a costly item to maintain and replace with higher mileage, especially if you do not do your own mechanical work. It's a very reliable system but if you add heavy "armor" like steel bumpers, sliders, roof rack, drawer system, etc. the AHC system will not last or work properly. However the good news is that it's not difficult to convert to standard suspension if you decide to heavily mod one and add over a thousand pounds of extra weights in "armor" mods.
2. Looks. Some people prefer the looks of a regular land cruiser but looks are obviously subjective and can go both ways.
The main maintenance items are replacing the heater hose T's which become brittle and can crack and leak coolant. It's more an issue in hot/dry climates and should be changed every ten years or so to be safe. Very cheap to do. Under $200 if you use upgraded stainless steel T's and high quality silicone hoses.
