Question 2003 LX470 w/ 116k miles for $15K - buying advice

Hi,

I'm considering to purchase a 2003 LX470 with 116K miles for $15K (asking price) from an independent, used car dealer. I would love any buying advice from the folks in this forum, since I'm brand new to the LX.

A little bit of history about vehicle:
  • Vehicle was purchased by dealer via estate sale in Texas
  • 1-owner
  • Good service history up until 2011 (pulled from Lexus owner site; see attached)
  • Vehicle was primarily stored/driven rarely from 2011 onwards (approx. 20k miles from 2011 to now); no service history during this time; dealer says brakes/tires were done
  • Clean Carfax

Main questions:
  • Is there anything in the service history that warrants further attention?
  • Does long-term storage come with unexpected issues?
  • Does the price seem fair?

Also, I'm having the vehicle inspected by a Lexus dealership on Monday of next week. This is the standard 150-point safety inspection service ($150 cost).

Thank you in advance!
JG

TX reminds me of hot and humid environment (at least southern TX) which is not good for any rubber components, I.e., hoses, belts, engine/transmission seals, head gaskets, and etc. Also remember the hurricanes??? Water damage, any one?

An excellent Lexus tech SHOULD be able to uncover any potential pitfalls. If ALL checks out, then JUMP on it. But I think offer 9K and maybe settle at South of 11K. (He probably bought it at 7.5K.)

Also, just type in the VIN#'s on Google search and see what comes up. It may SURPRISE YOU!!!

Good luck.

PM me. I know the truck you're talking about. I actually did an extensive inspection on it a few weeks back for a member on ih8mud (Land Cruiser forum). I got dozens of pics and remember every square inch of that truck. It's right by my house.

OP, do you plan on using the LX off road?

If so, you may be interested in this for around the same $$$$...Series 100 FS in WA state. I do understand the link leads you to a Land Cruiser.
