I see about 13 in the city and 17 on the highway with an avg of 15-16. This vehicle is VERY speed dependent with regard to mileage. At 55-65 it gets decent mileage for its size and 4WD. But at 80 it drops off 15-20% easy

I bought this previously owned 2001 lx470 in july, 2003 with 26,000 miles on it....I have always used 87 octane gas and the current mileage is 156,000 miles....My gas mileage had been constantly between between 16.3 and 16.85 mpg.(city and freeway 50:50)...I believe the book indicates 12 mpg city and 15mpg highway.... Cant complaint when mpg is over 16 for such a luxury driving machine..

LX470 2001 mileage

I also have a 2001 LX with 120,000 miles. I use premium gas. I get around 12.5 around town averaged over multiple tanks of gas. On the highway I get better than 17 if I stay around 65 Mph but at 80 Mph it is closer to 15.

When the car was newer, we tried running a couple of tanks of lower grade gas - 87 and 89. The car ran fine but the mileage went down a little, especially around town. The 87 was the worst, dropped to under 11. Others have said that if you drive for a while on the lower octane gas the ECU will eventually adjust. But the difference in price between premium and regular 87 for a tank of gas (22 gal fill up) here in Houston is only about $4.

Running a full tank down to empty (22 gal refill) on premium gets me about 280 miles, on regular around 240. That means I save $4 on the tank but use almost 4 gallons more to get the same miles. So if I pay over $10 more to go 280 miles but save $4 on the tank, I still lose $6 overall. I'm sticking with premium at least around town.
