Default Can (Should) I change to Synthetic Oil ? Best filter? 2001 LX470

I bought my 2001 LX470 used, I assume always had regular oil and that's what I've used. No problems I know of, but I am considering going to synthetic - Mobil 1 10W40 or the like. Currently have 130k miles, so I want to be sure there are no issues with changing to synthetic on a higher mileage vehicle. Any opinions?

Also, what make/model filter would I use if I go to synthetic?

Lastly, does anyone know if I can get most of the oil out thru the dipstick with a pump? I have the pump to change my boat oil so it may save me some effort if it can be used on the LX470.

Thx.

I tried the oil extractor, I think it got around 6 litres out of 8 out. I thought that it was not good enough, and finished it off the traditional way. My impression was that the extraction method was not as effective on this engine as it is say on the Mercedes M119 engine. Besides to get the filter out you still have to go from underneath.

Fumoto drain valve makes the change very easy.

I used to have the 4.7L V8 and remember I had to use 5W30 oil. Is it really 10W40?

Also, about pumping the oil: are you trying to do it the lazy way?

I moved to Mobil 1 synthetic oil three years back on my 2001 LX470. Previous owner had the oil changed from dealer with I believe regular Toyota oil. No problems and the SUV runs better. I have 70K on mine.

I always use the regular Toyota oil filter.

Take a look at a larger oil filter. The K&N HP-2009 fits quite a few models including the LX470.

Default Synthetic Oil

I use Mobil 1 0W30 for max fuel economy, its the fuel saving version of the oil, or you can use 5W30.

and you really need to drain all of the oil the old fashioned way, since you need to replace the oil filter anyway. I use Fram higher performance oil filters or Mobil 1 oil filters.
