Default Aftermarket 6x9 door speaker install (pics)

Ok, so as some know, I'd blown my front door speakers and decided on going aftermarket. I went with the Eclipse SC6900 components. I went component because its hard to find just a 6x9 thats not a coax or triax and those are useless in the door because the signal is lowpass only. I'll just keep the tweeters aside for the future. Ok, first the doors have to come off. To do this, there are 2 screws that must be removed. One behing a cover behind the door handle and another under the window/door lock button trim. You can just pry the cover lose and pull up on the trim. Disconnect the wires and pull on the door panel from the outter bottom corner and just continue to pull in a U shape until all the tabs are lose, then simply pull the panel up and out of the window slot.

Once the panels is lose, there are 2 connectors to remove and the lock and door handle lines. Remove them and the door panel will come free. The housing that holds the speaker is held in place by 4 10mm screws which can also be removed with a phillips. There's also a plug on top on the housing that just needs to be unplugged. Remove the housing and the speaker also has a plug on the inside of the housing which comes off easily. Raise the foam around the corners of the speaker and remove the screws that hold the speaker to the housing. The circles in red are the ones that need to be removed for the panel to come off. The ones in blue are the ones that attach to the window/lock switch.

Now here's the speaker I went with. Its beefier than the factory but shallower. And at 80 bucks for the package, its a nice buy.

Then I cut the wire from the factory speaker and simply slid it into the connectors that the Eclipse has. Its a connector similar to what comes in larger subs as you can see whats in the pic. I thought it was a nice touch for something so low priced. The housing also has 2 tabs that have to be cut in order for the speaker to fit in place. Once thats done, just simply drop the speaker in place

I didnt know which was which but since both doors have green and black wires, I assumed that green was the positive side of the speaker and went green positive on both sides to keep it uniform. Once the speakers are mounted on the housing, just reverse the removal process and youre done. These speakers sound really great compared to the factory speakers. Lots more bottom end and a whole lot louder. If you have any questions, please dont hesitate to PM or ask. And as always, Im not resposible for any damage or fires caused by this thread.

I still love the way the ML sounds but I feel like it can use some upgrades. At least for my taste of music. Im just hoping that the amp can keep up with the newly installed speaker because if not, I see a full blown upgrade in the very near future.

Here are some pics I forgot to load.
Heres the factory wire installed in the aftermarket. The depth of the aftermarket speaker, and how it looks installed. I also forgot to mention that the cone in the middle of the speaker doesnt move. Its an alum piece that I guess is part of the magnet. So there should be no problem with clearance.

That's a nice upgrade for sure! Is the sound quality a night and day difference?

They sound amazing. I spoke to my cousins hubby whos the one that installed the sub and he suggested I go with a 6x9 instead of the 6.5. He stated that a 6x9 pushes almost as much air as an 8", and it'll keep my from trying to make any adapters to make the speaker fit. Im very happy with the choice. My buddy that recommended these just switched his 6x9s over to play more mid since he just dropped an L7 15 in his FJ and it sounds amazing, so I guess these little guys can play anything from the low end to a mid range.
