Default 2018 Ls500 and Camry emulating 1989 LS400 and 1992 Camry hints

I think this is a REALLY interesting thing to consider. At first I felt it may be quite hypothetical to ponder it, but I read the 2018 Camry thread in Lexus Enthusiast forum, and the user "Carmaker1" had some information from Toyota corporate internally that went into detail of the fact that Toyota did infact use an ideology of "reimagining" the gen 1 Ls400 and follow up Gen 3 Camry that said "dad I wanna look just like you" and applied that to a modernization, in order to bring back alot of lost reputation.

I think it happened in Camry the most, but perhaps in the Lexus flagship as well. Not entirely Toyota's fault, of course. The tsunami, the earthquakes etc, is like Mr. Rooney on the bus at the end of Ferris Bueller, and you're limping your way back to health. That being said, The LS nor the Camry was ever a BAD car even at it's "lowest points" of engineering. But the whole issues with plasticness, even in Lexus, melting dashboards, the pedal recall, I think Toyota is back on their feet and they realized these cars aren't the benchmarks they used to be in their respective segments. The Camry has lost so much reputation, it's unfortunate as the 1992 model is undeniably one of the best engineered machines ever concieved. And not suprisingly, so is the 1989 LS400 from which inspired it. I believe Toyota spent 1 billion dollars to develop the LS400, 650 million on the gen 3 camry, and a mere 250 million on the gen 4.

I think Toyota let cost cutting get too far- after the gen 4 Camry, the LS430, they dug the hole alittle too deep.

Funny enough, I really don't think it would be evident to anyone whose never owned or driven these cars just seeing them glide down the road. I know personally it took 5 years of engineering school to fully appreciate the gen 3 camry and ucf10 LS400. The gen 4 is still a very sleek and elegant car, but ironically, it's got so much cost cutting in it one would never see from plain sight.

I think this is a very exciting time for Toyota and the new LS500.

The reason I ranted about this is I'm starting to see the Camry following the same suit of design and body shape as the LS which has not been a thing lately. I think that's a major time the early 1990s is being re-imagined

Default lexus history

I've been around toyotas since I was a kid. My parents bought camrys new back in the 80s. Then they moved and traded to to lexus. They've had lexus' every since. I've had several cars since and have also had camrys and lexus myself. My brother has had them too. We are just those folks. I say all of that to say this. The styling is so different now compared to what it was back then. And there was a strong similarity in the camry line and lexus line. So i see how one could say, they are starting to resemble again.
