Default LS 500: to spare or not to spare...

One thing I like about my car is the full-size spare.

Now I heard, or read it somewhere that the LC has dreaded run flats. Now that doesn't mean the LS will either, but since it hasn't been announced, I thought we could speculate.

So, what are your thoughts about this? To some it may seem inconsequential, but I've had bad luck with flat tires and can't count how many times I was grateful to have a spare tire.

No doubt, I always would prefer a full sized spare. No run flats.

Also just FYI, the fix a flat can is standard in some cars WITHOUT runflats too lol

For an image of LS500 under carriage showing area for probable full size spare as with current LS460, see post # 168 at:

Yeah, I noticed that black well as well, but that doesn't mean it will have a spare.

The Audi S7, for example, has a spare tire well when I flipped up the hatch cover, but instead of a spare tire is a factory subwoofer and I'm not joking. I laughed.

Yeah, spare tire kits that most of these cars come with are a joke. Those aerosol cans might patch a hole, but won't fix the flat itself. Well, the one my friend showed me that came with his caddy said it only adds a few PSI, enough to drive you "safely" for a few miles.

I hope it has a spare, even a space saver, although full size would be preferable.

I didn't vote because the poll didn't include my choice - "fix-a-flat" aerosol can only.

Now that there is the ability to retrofit a spare tire for the BMW 7 series, is there such a thing for the LS 500? What about a compact spare? Maybe one works from the 4LS? (not sure if it was a full size or a compact).

The 460 had a full-size spare.

The LS500 we looked at yesterday was wearing non-rft 20" bridgestones on those noise-canceling wheels, and a full-sized spare. That's what I want. They can keep those heavy, rockhard riding RFT's that only buy you a little bit of extra driving on them. The industry is really pushing those, and they are NOT ready for prime-time yet.
YMMV, IMO, etc...

I may have misunderstood the salesman or maybe he misspoke. But it DOES have a spare according to him. I didn't look under the trunk panel, though I did look in the trunk. Nevertheless, it DID (SEEM) have the non-rft bridgestones as I was told (im already questioning this as I took his word for it and didn't get down and squint at the sidewall info to verify....grrr and I NEVER go into a dealership without knowing said product pretty well from much preliminary online research.

Id be curious where the spare would go as it clearly would not fit under the trunk.

Not even a space-saver spare? I've read two pre-production reviews that said that's what it has. I've also read that it does NOT come with a spare and RFT's are standard. I haven't studied deeply on the LS500 myself, and the salesman seemed to be pretty in-the-know, unlike the Toyota salesman a few weeks ago that didn't know his Tundra product at all...

That said, I have a nice new minty-fresh LS500 brochure in my grubby mitts!! hehe. Uhh, no mention of a spare whatsoever

I will repent in sackloth and ashes for my previous claim in post 8 here....I was solely trusting the salesman who seemed to know the product pretty well (unlike many); and my disadvantage for going in all but cold, on a new product I hadn't thoroughly researched myself yet. That is not the norm for me whatsoever...
