My Heads-Up Display is showing what I can only describe as a gray misty area above the compass. The area has grown larger in the last week and if I dim the display, the area almost disappears. I looked through the windshield, down into the HUD hoping to find some dirt, or bug, or something distorting the display, but nothing. I don't have an understanding of how this feature works. Any tips? Can I fix this myself, or is it a trip to the dealer?
I’ve got the same issue happening on my 2018 LS500. I took it to the dealer and they will have to replace it with a new HUD unit. Thank goodness it’s covered under warranty.

How long is the warranty? Bought mine in Oct 2018.
Thanks for the Pic. I think I see what you are talking about. Looks to be about where the compass normally is. Does your HUD still show the compass if you select it? That might cover the defect enough to live with it ? Sorry you are dealing with this
WOW that is really crazy. Did they ever say what caused the issue? Crazy thing is it's a $1200 option. I guess its a lot of labor to change?
The dealer charged me $2,200 for the unit itself and $1,100 for labor (approximately). Surprised me too, i knew it was a $1,200 option. And like the other posted, the foggy area above the compass grew larger until I finally had it checked out. Was really hoping there was some dirt or a cleaner my detailer got on the unit, but, no.
Did you ever find out what was wrong? I wonder what causes this
The dealer stated on the repair invoice, "Verified internal projection issue with the heads up display. Removed dash and replaced...."
[sorry for the late reply]

yea I have the same issue I don’t want to pay to replace and it comes back in a few years feel like it should be replaced for free with something better with a explanation.
