Abs
I am looking for some pointers and feedback on my Lexus. Today whilst driving the brakes suddenly became soft and then failed, almost immediately I could smell something inside the car (tho I'm sure it was coming from outside). At the same time I also got flashing on the dash saying that the ABS system failed and to stop the car. I had to move the car to a safe place to arrange a tow truck to garage, but when I was about to start the car again I got warning sounds (why I have never heard before). Obviously this was to tell me it would be dangerous to drive with faulty brake system. Once I reached the repair shop they checked and eventually said it was a new ABS pump that I need to replace. They suggested I can choose from a new or second hand. Just wondering if the diagnosis sounds right, and if yes, is it ok to go with a used ABS replacement, as there is a helluva difference in price. Less than half the price of a new one ....
Almost any part on LS460 would be OK to purchase used except ABS. The issue is you have no expectation how long it is going to last. However, if you can get an used pump for cents and labor is cheap too, I guess, it would make it worth taking risk of installing an used ABS pump.
