Low miles doesn't always mean good.....

As the thread states sometimes you run the risk of even low mileage Pre-13s having destroyed interiors, my wife has been sending me 460s for "approval" and got excited by this one right up until we opened it and saw the thing falling apart on the inside. How do you even manage to mess a car with suck ow miles up like this?

What am I missing here?? I looked at all the pics and didn't see anything abnormal.

Anfanger Mar 16, 2022 03:01 AM

It is not terrible at all, it just needs some cleaning. Unless I am missing something.

rick3242 Mar 16, 2022 03:19 AM

It seems to look in fairly good shape for an 09. Did you see it in person? if so what was falling apart?

SW17LS Mar 16, 2022 06:24 AM

Yeah I don't get it, the interior looks really good to me...needs a good detail. I mean, it is 13 years old.

Purchase pending now too, so can't have been too bad.

Hard to sell a car over the phone, can't smell it from here. Go look at it and get back to me.

It's been there for quite some time....
It doesn't seem to be a very well maintained car...look at the driver side carpet too....

The interior panels have gouges and edge wear/bits missing if you really look at them and there are a lot of scuffs and dings in plastic trims.

Carpet is also stained badly enough in pictures that I'm sure in person it would be hard to fully clean/recover.

Usually I have found cars that look "perfect" have a bunch of little problems that in my cars case required me to replace 1/2 the hard trim with new. This one is worse in the pictures alone and that's very worrying since if ZLZ was not done that dirt will never come off those panels.

The wheel also looks like there are small dings and stuff in it, that would drive me crazy and I would need to source a new airbag cover. If I can't see this car in person to assess the panels are still hard and sealed and can actually be cleaned I always assume ZLZ is not done and it's a sticky unrecoverable mess.....and everything I'm seeing in this add when contrasted to the 15 cars I looked at before my current 460 points to this one being a fail on interior condition.

Still. The miles if true are worth giving it a shot in person I guess

I just dont see how this is an example of a poor car at all. Perhaps its not perfect, but I can find many more examples that would be poor condition interiors.

Guess I'm picky? I mean it's not bad but I would not want to live with it if the panels can't be cleaned to like new....if it's somehow close by I may try and look at it in person to see how much work the paint would need if it does need anything. The front bumper also would need to be repaired since it had a front plate holder and that's already a paint blend job.

If you look in the linked pictures the interior has a lot of chips and staining, the real issue is that the wood on the door is the original Yamaha dark birds eye maple.....that's a massive warning to me ZLZ was never done since all the ZLZ cars have dark ash wood since Yamaha stop making the original wood in 2009 so all the cars that have the replaced doors always have slightly mismatching wood. This would make this car near impossible to clean up unless you buy 100% new doors, dash, and lower panels.

SW17LS Mar 16, 2022 01:16 PM

Assuming that car doesn't have the sticky dash issue, I can make that door panel look new in 5 minutes.

I just don't see how those pictures are "surprisingly poor condition" for a car of its age.

That's the whole issue, everything I'm seeing is pointing to that problem existing

But thats a common issue for these cars, so one that has it is not in suprisingly poor condition.

For the miles I would have expected the owner to have done at least one of the two recalls, this issue makes any 07-12 a hard no for me. I can't imagine anyone who could stand a degraded/melting interior like these cars have if they weren't addressed....again it's really surprising for one that is otherwise is seemingly good shape to have this problem you only see in cars where the owners just didn't bother with the recall/super high mileage ones.

My current one is an exception to my and others general advice of 13+ only
