Default Well, I am annoyed

I bought a certified 13 LS460 F-Sport from Lexus dealer last October, have owned multiple Lexi cars previously this time I am annoyed, last December the rear trunk stopped functioning suddenly after I dropped my son at the airport, it stayed in the open position and could not be locked manually so I had to drive home with open trunk, weekend issue and dealer is closed, perfect timing. The issue was corrected by the dealer and he said the motor was bad and is replaced, also he mentioned that he is surprised that it happened as it is more common in pre 2013 models.
Well yesterday I was shopping at Costco and it was 105 degrees in Vegas, and here we go again the Trunk opened and refused to shut down and stayed in the open position, what the hell it was 3 pm and I had to drive home with open trunk again loaded with groceries and stuff and then had to rush to the dealer again, the service advisor was in shock, we will see what happened this time. I will have to think about keeping this one, I know it is not a big issue, but man not convenient at all and you cannot drive the car with open trunk, very annoying.

I got a loaner 2020 ES 350 which I always admired its shape, beautiful car and now I got to drive it, good car but I like mine much better, better luxury driving experience and more enjoyable.

That's pretty bizarre for sure. I'll just assume Lexus will get it right . . . . eventually. Good luck.

An update, got a call back from service advisor, it is the same part that was replaced previously, he said it is not in stock and they had to get it from Los Angles. He says they do not carry the part because they never had a failure on models 13 and newer, he also said apparently when it failed the first time they installed a used part since they do not carry it.
It means I will keep the ES 350 for the weekend, which is fine as the Android Auto is fantastic and the other features are also very good. I like it but it is not LS 460 for sure.

Installing a used part when you are covered by the L certified warranty? That just seems wrong to me. After this is repaired you may want to start going to another dealer since your L certified warranty is good at any Lexus Dealer. There are many folks that would complain to the service manager about this. It’s very normal for a car dealer to not have every part and have to order it.

Oh I have a feeling 2013+ will start to fail as common as the 2007-2012 very soon. The trunk latch motor in a 2013+ looks identical to the 2007-2012s
The general life expectancy of these latches appear to be about 8 years. I still see the same plastic arm/gear used which breaks over time

2013+ & pre 2013 latch below....

Well I have an 07 with 125k miles and my trunk works perfectly.

So I guess I am lucky because they all commonly fail, I am also lucky my brake actuator has not failed yet either.

A used part was installed. I can see Dolph's point about switching dealers. On the other hand, they didn't have to tell you it was a used part, so their forthrightness is admirable. I think I would be inclined to stick with them.

And my '07 with 144,000 miles hasn't had the trunk nor the brake actuator problems. Of course my wheels have delaminated and the drip moldings have peeled.

I had the same trunk-closer issue with my 2013. It failed in January immediately after the first time I parked it outside in sub-freezing temperatures overnight. Maybe it was ready to fail and freezing it finished it off. I ordered the part from Bell Lexus in Arizona and replaced it myself in an hour or so.

After reading the previous posts and thinking about it now, and since they do not carry this part in stock, Probably when it first happened, they fixed the old part somehow and installed back in the trunk, and now when it failed again, they have to order a new one. I have been dealing with them for years and I never had an issue, the same goes for my in laws, and we have owned multiple Lexi, I will give them the benefit of the doubt this time and move on. I am surprised it is the same part as the pre 2013 as I was told otherwise and if it is the case I would think they should have it in stock at least in Nevada as there are two dealership in the Vegas Area and one in Reno.

It seems like they wasted your time by trying to fix the old part and reinstalling it if that is in fact what they did. I don't put it past them. They are billing it to Lexus so why even go that route. I can see if they did a temporary fix and ordered the new part but that's not what they did which is shady. I would not take it personally since I'm pretty sure most shops not just a Lexus dealership operate this way. Like I said, it's one thing to inform me that you fixed the old part and another to act like they installed a new one until they get caught lying.

Ok, got the car back all is working and fine now, cause listed as "OPEN CIRCUIT INSIDE BACK DOOR LOCK MOTOR ASSEMBLY. REMOVED AND REPLACED BACK DOOR LOCK OPENER ASSEMBLY."

It is not a big deal but just the convenience factor, on the positive side I got to drive 2020 ES350 with the latest tech which I like, but oh boy sure I am glad I got my 460 back, different ride and enjoyment factor for sure.

so this is how they do it huh, not fair practice at all. They should’ve installed new from the beginning. what a waste of time and hassle you had to go through.
