Howdy. I mentioned in another thread that there was a rattle coming from the passenger door. A while back I figured it to be from the switches on the door lock and window plate. The first time I took it apart, I stuffed some felt type stuff in some of the pockets hoping that would help. It did not. I got ambitious yesterday and tried to remove the plate again. The back popped up easy enough, but the front area refused. Then all of a sudden it came apart, but not all of it! The black plate has a layer of wood underneath and the front section of wood broke away from the plate. It housed the pin that seats the piece in place. First thing I did was disconnect the window connector, but I had to unscrew the door opener connector to remove it(The screws are slightly stripped, so obviously a repair for this rattle has been attempted). I glued and clamped the wood back together with some tightbond 1 (indoor use) and now it's stronger than it was originally. There was minor damage to the plate, but now that it's back in place, it is really unnoticeable.
Back to the rattle. I added more shims in places, but I think I discovered the real rattle. It's appears to be the two plastic dowels that control the rocker to the door lock are the issue. Pretty sure they make the noise I'm hearing while driving. I wasn't sure what to do since those dowels feed onto this plastic skin which in turn sits against the mechanism that makes the lock work. I'm not technical so I hope this makes sense. But I didn't do anything to the dowels which makes me think I'll still have the rattle. I have it all back together and I never took photos because I was too aggravated to think of it. But I found a photo online and I put a box around the broken area. It's not quite the same as mine, but it gives you the idea. I'll report back the next time I get out.
Definitely still rattling. Took it apart this morning. Dowels don't have any room to add any material at all. I popped a little bit of WD40 in each hole which also landed on the rocker switch (which may also be the culprit). Removed as much of the residue as possible, put it back together and popped it in place. Not sure this fixed the issue, but at this point I'm stumped. I'm betting, based on the screws slightly stripped, the previous owner was stumped as well. We shall see.
