Bluetooth connection

We have an '07 LS 460. My wife has a newer Iphone 8+ and we can't get it to "discover" the car bluetooth so we can enter the passkey. The phone displays a message "discover new device" with the process wheel turning. We have tried several times with no results. Is it possible that the older car isn't compatible with the newer phone? Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Well considering that Apple has actually admitted that old iphone models are essentially disabled with new software updates, and the fact that they build their products to be backwards incompatible, I would say there is a very strong chance an older car is not compatible with a newer apple phone.

Some older cars and newer phones may not be compatible with each other. You may bring the vehicle to a dealership and they can attempt to update the software in your vehicle to pair up with your phone.
