1F2 Mercury Metallic Touch Up Doesn't Match
 

Picked up straight from the dealer last week. I let it cure a few days and it is still very dark compared to original paint. Anybody find a better match? Universal silver maybe? Thanks!

I have purchased and used the Mercury Metallic Paint from www.automotivetouchup.com with excellent results and they are great to deal with.

It's not going to match because you would need to wet sand the area and then put some clear on it then wet sand again to even get it close. And it still would not match. I have the same color car and paint pen. I can see it up close but from a distance I can't tell and neither can anyone else. Some things you just have to live with.....

Silver is VERY hard to touch up

Very, indeed...I had a platinum metallic Jaguar years ago, apparently it was some kind of a multilayer deal; like silver but somehow not. I fixed a stone chip by painting, using cutting compound, then painting again, and finally applying some clearcoat in a similar manner. As a result, it was indistinguishable from its surroundings from some angles, yet very obviously darker from other angles. Same with overspraying an entire panel; hard to get a match.

FWIW, our metallic silver LS430 needed some touch up a few years ago and I went to our local Sherwin Williams automotive paint store for a pint. Didn't match either. Too dark. Turns out there was available a higher quality/cost paint (also from SW) that matched exactly. So, it pays to pay for the best quality sometimes. It is odd that dealer touchup paint didn't match though. One thought is that the paint wasn't shook up enough. The SW person told me, since there was a lot of metallic in the paint, you really had to shake it up good.

It was a little bit of a pain but the results are pretty good.
