Extended warranty options?
Good evening gentlemen. Solicited some purchase advise from this forum last week on a 2010, have now put a deposit on a 2008 460L with 45K on the clock.

It doesn't appear the control arms or brake actuator has been done, and no issues addressed with the air suspension...........yet. All the "sticky" door panels and interior trim pieces have been replaced, the car looks to be in outstanding condition however I'm not seeing it in person until next weekend.
I'm not usually an extended warranty kind of guy, but would one make sense in this case? Will the dealer have one available from Lexus? Any particular company that would be recommended? Fair price for one?

Control arms from Lexus: usually around $4,500. Brake actuator: $3,000-4,000. Air suspension: $700-1,100 per shock plus the potential for compressors. And that year is known to be affected and has multiple failure rates.
Also, I'm going to be dead honest: that's a pretty awful deal right there. No real options and 45k miles for a 2008? That's 2010+ money right there for the same miles. I'm going to tell you right now, you will get a lot more pleasure out of the car if you buy one with more options. At a bare minimum you want the Luxury Package, and preferably one with the Executive package if they're going to charge you $20,000 for a 2008.

I'll admit I'm not up to speed on the different packages.
$17,000 is probably closer to a reasonable value, being generous. That’s because the 2008 is less desirable than a 2010+ model, and this doesn’t even have anything option-wise that makes it even the least bit worth the kind of money they’re asking. I’ve see cars with 1/3 the miles of this one for this price, so I would skip this entirely for one that either has the options or one that is newer.
If you’re buying it to keep it for a long time, buy one that’s worthy of your money: the leather interior upgrade transforms the car from having a mediocre interior to one that truly feels like the $80k car it was.

No, the leather is different for the Luxury package: it uses higher quality leather and the door panels are wrapped in leather, which ascetically makes a huge difference. The 2010+ has redesigned control arms and brake actuator, and it has a newer navigation system that allows for Bluetooth music streaming. Which is part of why the 2010+ demands a higher value.
And back to extended warranty consideration, does having a 2010-2012 lower the risk significantly of being hit with significant repair bills?

Head to cars.com and enter the specs you want. Put in nationwide for distance from your zip. Only buy from reputable dealers. Take a look at the CARFAX. Most offer it for free. Look at the Lexus drivers site and enter the vin. See what service has been done and any issues. Maybe you can get lucky and control arms were done. See how long the car has been listed. When you find a few that meet your criteria, contact them and see what you can find out about the car. Make your best deal and hire someone to inspect the car. You can have it shipped to you. Call your local Lexus if you want and ask them if they offer an extended warranty.
When you do settle on an LS460, and to answer your original question, I'd recommend you check into getting a warranty from CNA. They are a reputable nationwide warranty provider, and get good reviews on this site. I purchased one from them for my 2010 LS600hL. My car had 66k miles when I got it last year, and I was able to get a 6 year warranty for $2900 or so. My warranty will cover all the problem spots (control arms, brake actuator, M/L Amp, even the hybrid batteries! I now have 75k miles and haven't had a need for the warranty, but I think it will pay off at some point in the next 5 years, and it does provide nice peace of mind.
I do recommend patience in your search. The prices are definitely dropping pretty quickly on the 2008-2012 LS's, and there are likely a lot of very nice low-mileage examples that will hit the market over the coming months at a bargain price. I honestly think you can't find a better overall value for a used luxury car these days! If you really want to have some fun, check out an LS600hL if you can find one! They generally have nearly every available option and are the "best of the best" from Lexus! If you get a CNA warranty, you'll lose your fear of hybrid battery failure and will enjoy the amazing quietness and torque of the LS600hL!

I would consider looking for at least a 2011 or 2012 if you're wanting to stay in that 07-12 car model. Otherwise, I'd recommend looking for a 2013 or 2014 for a bit more money and a lot more tech. As for warranty, I've mentioned this elsewhere, but I went to my Lexus Dealer once I got the car delivered to me. They hooked me up with a product called CustomEdge. Haven't had the need to use it yet, but it's pretty extensive coverage, reasonable price, and Lexus honors it.
