Google maps override when playing music.

Maps and Waze plays through car speakers when BT tab is entered, when music is playing map voice does not override music.
I have to switch back to BT to hear map voice.
I s there a work around or is it one or the other period?

I'll fiddle with the settings.
I went into the google maps settings, and turned off bluetooth. Now I get audio from my phone speaker, though it doesn't mute the radio, which is no big deal.
Not sure what he means here.

Its a setting within your phone itself. All the car is doing in this situation is playing whatever audio is playing from the phone through the Bluetooth speakers.

I failed to make myself clear, not a surprise!
While listening to my vehicles audio system (whether FM AM etc), phone connected via BT.
Phone in Google Maps mode or Waze, will or can it give directions though the cars speakers overriding the music?

PS: not streaming music from phone, just Nav.

Thank you for any insight!

So the answer there, is no. It can only provide directions through the phone's speakers if you are listening to BT streamed music off of the phone already. if you are in FM or CD or whatever other mode its impossible

I thought so , thank you for the confirmation.

SW17LS not doubting your knowledge but you certain of this?
reason i ask is that an incoming call over BT will override the car stereo

jkittlesen 06-10-19 06:55 PM

Was hoping for more input! Not doubting any opinion.

Good question, you can get a call from your phone while playing music (FM,AM and Sat) over BT, (and it overlays on cars speakers) yet can not get Map or Nav instructions from said BT while playing music (FM,AM and Sat) and overlay.
Explain that please?

jkittlesen 06-10-19 07:17 PM

What could be the diff?

I see that the Google Maps app plays sound as Media in Android, certainly the volume control is the Media Volume. I believe the only way to get Google Maps to play sound on the car stereo is to connect the phone as a Media Player. That has been my experience on the few cars I have tried it on.

Go into the settings of the Waze App, sprocket icon in the upper left corner.
Find and open Voice and Sound, then change Play sound via... to Play as
Bluetooth phone.
How does your media player respond to a phone call? Mutes and connects, right?
Now it will mute and play Waze comments, you will see "incoming phone call with
your own number pop up.

Thank you sir!

Be aware that Waze and other Navigation Apps take quite a bit of electrical power.
When you exit the car and unplug your charging cable but certain to sweep off the
app (unless you are hiking or biking onward!) to save the device battery.

I have no sprocket icon, hmmm
