Angry Fuel Pump Gaskets Leak

It was my dream and long wish to get a Lexus and LS ,I got used ls 460 with 153k miles from a used auto dealer.I purchased it as the car fax had one owner and he made sure he serviced his vehicle before it reached every 5000 miles. After the purchase one of my friends said u can get full history of vehicle from lexus website. So when i registered online and got the service history. Before owner selling the car @ 148000 miles Lexus dealer evaluated and found fuel pump gasket leak.To cut story short i took my car to service at a privately owned service center where they only service Lexus and Toyota and they do have very good reviews about their service online.
They evaluated and said same that i had to replace the Gasket or else the oil will leak and get to sensors.
Also suggested to change from brake pads.
All together with gasket replacement,Front brake pads, oil and filter change i got charged 1078$$ which i never thought i would get.
They said there is no other issue with vehicle only this.
i went ahead cause of thinking i dont have to do much again after this.
My question is if i should consider purchasing an extended warranty so in order to avoid heafty charges later on.
I know the fact that car is pretty reliable but to get peace of mind any advice is appreciated

And also it was heavy rain and hail here two days back and today i see a small chip in my wind shied.
Should i use my insurance to replace with factory windshield or safelite would be fine?

To me the work you had done seems a little high. Did they replace both fuel pump gaskets?? How about the valve cover gaskets?

Windshield mine has a few chips. A Lexus glass will cost over a thousand. I would leave it alone unless it will crack.

What year is your LS?

I don't think that's too terrible of a price but they should have replaced the valve cover gaskets while they were at it. I did the fuel pump gaskets and valve cover gaskets and it took me about 6 hours give or take.

So that was just the labor for this work on gaskets? I know its a time consuming job. I have to check when mine was done i had valve covers and new plugs done.

I had both fuel pump gaskets replaced for $400 (parts and labor), so while the charge is little bit in the high side, it’s not terrible.

Body/mechanic shop in SW Chicagoland... I’ve known the owner for years.

Understanding that this is an 11-12 year old car with 150k+ miles...you WILL have repairs coming down the pike, some of those repairs on a car of this caliber may be 4 figure repairs. Control arms, brake actuator, air suspension if equipped, starter, struts even without air suspension, all of these are common weak points for the car (and with the suspension, any car of that age) and they are ALL $1,000+ jobs.

An extended warranty is just insurance against mechanical breakdown. The question is, do you have the ability to pay $1,000+ on a repair out of the blue. If the answer is no, then you should sell the car or get an extended warranty...if the answer is yes, then the question of whether or not to get a warranty is a matter of comfort for you. I can't imagine an extended warranty on the car at this point would come out positive for you in cost, otherwise companies extending those warranties wouldnt make any money.

Its a very reliable car, but its quite old and high mileage at this point.

I just purchased a 07 LS460 this weekend from a lexus dealership. Not cert preowned, but the paperwork shows they replaced the High pressure fuel pump gaskets also. The invoice shows 3 parts were replaced...

The car I picked up had 96k miles, hopefully nothing else comes up... I also turned down the extended warranty....

Best of luck to your purchase as well! Hoping nothing else goes wrong!
