Default Engine oil low - help

Hi guys how much oil consumption is normal? This is my first used car and I have no clue.

I changed the oil for the first time for me at 89,616 US miles, now I am 92,500+. I drove it for a few minutes running an errand, let it sit for 5-10 minutes the oil only read right up to the first mark. I came up and did some stuff went down again 30 minutes or more after and it is still reading the same.

Im going to try tomorrow, checking it when it is stone cold and see what it is. If it is the same, how much oil should I be putting in and is this level of consumption normal ?

You'r probably going to be <mid mark checking it cold.
That would be around 1/2-3/4 qrt from the full mark.
I thinks thats acceptable usage after 3k miles considering the mileage on the vehicle.
I believe 1 qrt/1200 miles is what Toyota considers "acceptable" when they had the piston/rings warranty enhancement on their 2AZ motors.

I did not manage to take good pics but basically it was a hair above the first dot, before I topped it up will check later in the day no time to wait for it settle now. Hopefully I’ll get more opinions before then on how much I should top it up to

Says on the manual it will take 1.6 quarts to raise level from low to full. What do you guys do? Do you always keep it in the middle or full?

Im about the same quantity, more like 1.4 qrts from low to full
I always like to keep mine in the FULL mark, maybe a little over, especially with my mileage on the RX.
By the time i change my oil (3k miles), I'm just below the low level mark.

Mine uses a ton, but it has 236k miles. I just keep a box of quart bottles in the trunk and usually drop one in when I fill up the tank. Oil is cheap. Having a huge oil capacity helps. I keep an eye on it regularly, and every once in awhile, if I haven't topped up in a while the add engine oil light pops on the dash and I immediately do that. Runs great but I think my catalytic converters are shot.

I read on another forum that using 5w30 will help with oil consumption maybe that’s why the previous owner did it

When you changed oil at 89, 616 did you do it yourself and note engine temp and the position of the oil mark on dipstick when complete? This would give you a reference point for judging oil consumption. Maybe on the previous change they shorted you oil. Some of these oil change guys aren’t much for details.

FWIW, my '08 consumed a qt every 1500-2000 miles, especially after going the first 3k miles or so. For whatever reason, it consumed more oil and quicker after that first 3k. MY car only had 80k miles on the odo when I bought it, and consumed the same amount of oil right up until I traded it in on my SHO. Also, I tried everything from 5W20 to 5W30 and it didn't change the rate of consumption at all. As a result, I stuck with 0w20 as recommended. It seems that these DI engines consume oil. My DI engine BMW 7 series consumed even more, but it also blew blue smoke after short idles or hard acceleration. I never saw any blue smoke with the LS. I also had no leaks, so the oil was going SOMEWHERE. It was one of the few frustrating issues with the LS and is common among owners. There are several threads about it here at CL.

Just read: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/ls-...ing-oil-3.html

just checked my oil level again twice today stone cold and it seems to be past the 1/2 way point between the first dot and the 2nd full dot.

also checked brake fluid reservoir - is brake fluid supposed to be such a light colour ? Lol it’s a very light golden hue.
