2013 Transmission Whine TSB-Should I do it?—UPDATE-MOTOR MOUNTS TOO
Gents,
I have my 13' LS-L scheduled to have the TSB done on Monday. I happen to need an oil change and am also going to perform the TSB that corrects the dead battery issue when its left sitting for too long. That did happen to me once when I came back from a 5 day trip to NYC.
I dont feel it has a whine but since the powertrain warranty expires next month I figure they can do it and it can prevent the issue if it ever does decide to show up. This car has been flawless and I have a small concern that "if it aint broke dont fix it" rule may come back to bite me if I have them mess with the tranny,
What are your thoughts? Should I skip the TSB? Have any of you that have done it experienced a negative effect from doing so?

What is the TSB for? Is it for software only or is it for part replacement. If it is for parts replacement and it is working fine I would personally leave it as is. You can always have the dealership put it in your service record that you think it is starting to whine but you want more time to verify that it is in fact that issue and not some thing else.

The TSB replaces a transmission mount and associated part. Mine was not done under the warranty and now cost abut $450 in parts and published 1.5 hours shop labor. Indy shop around $750, dealer quoted $1200. If you have the whine, you’ll want the TSB done.

Well they are going to perform the tsb besides not really hearing the whining. On a side note the Mech said he felt a slight vibration so they are replacing both motor mounts since the warranty is up. I personally didn’t feel it but he says that they are due. Not very impressed that a car that has been epically babied it’s entire 36k miles of life needs new motor mounts but I am not going to cry about it because it’s free.

Well I got it back after motor mounts and tranny mount replaced. Major difference. To someone who isn’t a car guy or someone who isn’t a long term LS owner it probably would have been imperceptible but I definitely notice difference. Idle is way smoother and the whine noise dropped by 75%.
Very happy I did it but still have heartburn about the fact all this was needed at 37k miles.
I would highly recommend everyone who is nearing the tail end of their powertrain warranty to have the dealer check this.
