19” a good idea ? I’m already having a hard enough time with 18”
So guys I’m thinking of getting 19” for the summer BUT I’m worried that the horrible roads here, would make it more problematic for me. Is there less rubber on the stock 19”s meaning is sidewall thinner ? Stock 18’ are 235 50 18, what are the stock 19s? Maybe i I should just stick to 18s what you guys think |
Stick with the 18's. I've seen the roads in Ukraine and they're a lot like what we have in the Northern US. I'm replacing a tire tomorrow on my LS460 with 19" wheels from a pothole. Low profile tires and bad roads are not a good mix.

Yeah, I'd stick with 18s too. People try to run 20s on city streets around here, and they get lots of flats. Worse than that, they get bent/cracked rims, which gets expensive in a hurry.

That's what I have on my car. I'm glad to have them, too - some of the crappy highways around here have had major potholes after the last big freeze.

If you're having trouble with the 18s, you will just have more trouble with the 19s. The sidewall is logically about 1" thinner.

I was going to get these 18s, but a set of 19 five spokes finally showed up for sale. Much better handling with 19s. Regained comfort over bumps changing out original struts with kyb gas ajust struts.

Doesn't matter what size rim or tire you have, if you hit a pothole the wrong way or go over train tracks the wrong way, it's done for your tires/rims. I've had probably every size from 18-22's same outcome. Maybe i just suck at avoiding things.

I stuck with 245/45/19s. I didn't want the bulky look with 255/45/19. There are a fair share of potholes in the Northeast. I'm good at dodging them and the city is good at filling the bad ones quickly.
