LS460 vs LS500 vs G90 vs Continental...
#31
Low mile 2017 Genesis G90 Ultimate V8 models are going for around 50K. Low mile 2015 Mercedes Benz S550's are only few thousand more. Is the choice between the two obvious?.
BTW, this has been a very interesting, enjoyable and informative discussion.

While I will tell you I probably wouldn't drive anything but a Lexus, my neighbor did a lease on a K900 last year. He absolutely loves it. I will say it is very well equipped. My wife and I drove in the backseat last week and it was quiet and comfortable with lots of bells and whistles. You probably could get a great deal on an 18. Another neighbor has the G90 and said they'd never drive anything else. As for getting over the Hyundai moniker, many had to get over the Toyota big dollar car tag as well. Good luck.
Or anyone can answer that, I'd appreciate it. Thanks!
(Before I got my L, I lusted for K900 because of bang for the buck. But now that I have a LS460 L (2007 though), I can't give up the space in the backseat.

Sooo just to update everyone, the final decision has been made (large influence from the wife). Sticking with a LS500 so we can be an All-Lexus family (yeah..one of those..lol) to pair up with my wife's LX570.
Thoughts on the competition:
2nd gen K900 (salesperson was somewhat surprised I was asking to test drive it) and impressed, can't wait for the new-gen G90 to come out and get Carplay. K900 has the floaty feel, the 2nd gen K900 would be a bargain in the $40s here in 12-18 months for someone out there looking for a luxobarge for not much $$!
G90 between the lack of a strong dealer network (yet) and no Apple Carplay (yet) did it in.
Test drove the 2018 CT6 Premium Luxury and almost bought it solely on the fact of the Super Cruise - they are also astounding pre-owned bargains at $20k-$30k off new but ride wasn't as plush. If you can, you must test drive the 18 (or newer) CT6 with Super Cruise, that feature is awesome, can't say it enough!
S-Class was the best ride here; between supple interior quality to the most isolated & cushy ride. Massive fear of after the CPO warranty runs out what cost of ownership looks like.
2019 A6 was impressive, had a great balance of sporty and quiet/cushy. The dealership (Audi of Plano) staff were dicks, but get a top-of-the-line Prestige for $70k was worth a 2nd thought.
So on to try to score a deal on a 19 LS500, thanks all for your help!
I do want to say the G90 would be the strong 2nd place here - yes there are quibbles here and there, but really impressed.

Can you share pricing of the S class you considered and details of how long the car would be under CPO (how many miles did car have and when does CPO run out)? Were there options of extending the CPO? I'd have a hard time saying no to an S class that had CPO coverage and fit within my budget.
So I could have had a 15 S550 with ~40k miles and decently specced (i.e. MSRP ~$105k) for under $60k but warranty would run out next year.

Yeah I started looking 15 S-classes up (price range in the Dallas area $57k-$70k) was trying to find one with the Burmester 3D sound system, mileage range from 30k-47k miles. MB adds 1 year - unlim miles to the CPO (i.e. you'd get a total of 5 years unlim miles from in-service date) so a 15 S-Class would expire in 2020. MB dealerships can add a 2 year or 3 year unlim warranty (i.e. to 2021 or 2022) for about $2k and $3k respectively.

Again theres almost a months worth of inventory for the ground, so you can search safely.

If that's the case, and if you kept the car for 4 years and sold it, I'm guessing an 8 year old out-of-warranty S550 may sell for $30k to $35k so it cost you around $30k to own it over the 4 years (plus oil changes, tires, etc). If you buy a new LS 500 and get it for $75k and keep it 4 years, I'm guessing that will net you about $50k or so when you sell it, which means the LS500 is costing you $25k for 4 years. Pretty close to being a coin flip if my math is somewhat right, so just comes down to preference of the car and how badly you'd want to be in either brand. Obviously there is also some value to also be placed on having a brand new car (or effectively brand new) opposed to a 2015.
Is that how you looked at it?

Try your hand at an 18 LS500, easy 20% off. Dont know if they would be spec-d as closely as you`d want them, but 20% off a Lexus thats a only been out 1yr and some months brand new/warranty zero miles etc.

True no AC on the 18s, but new car, new warranty, excellent pricing. There are rumors of the Gen 10 systems needing just a sw update, but honestly if you NEEED AC, I would switch to a vehicle build with one such as the 19s.

Interesting, thanks. If I'm reading this correctly, you could get a 15 S550 with around 40k miles and add 3 years of warranty (for $3k) and be in the $60k to $63k range. That would mean you're covered for a total of 4 years if MB is carrying the 1st year.

That said, excellent analytical way to look at this and ultimately, buy/drive the car you want cos you can't take the money with you afterward, right? =)

Not sure if anyone saw this but, I guess I'll cross my fingers in the hopes this may work for 2018 vehicles.
Lexus website:
"Lexus remains committed to enhancing our in-vehicle multimedia guest experience. We are currently conducting an internal trial for Apple CarPlay compatibility in some 2018 LC, 2018 LS, 2018/19 NX, 2018 RC, 2018/19 RC F, and 2019 ES (non-navigation). At this time, we do not have any additional information we can share but anticipate providing further details to applicable guests in Summer 2019."
