2013 LS-460 L UL - Buy or not to buy

I saw a 2013 Lexus LS 460 L RWD with Ultra-luxury package at the dealership. It's Nebula gray pearl with flaxen interior. It has 74000 miles, maintained at the dealership with all records, no accidents. The Lexus dealership are quoting $29,000 + Tax. Should I pull the trigger, please advise.

Ohh I love the flaxen interior! That is a pretty good price for a rare car. While mileage is above average, I wouldn't doubt it given the LS is a beast in reliability. Only concern I'd have is the air suspension but I haven't heard of any air suspension failures for 2013's (though it uses the same part #'s as the 2007-2012 generation).

Erring on the side of caution, I'd have a Lexus dealership or your trusted independent mechanic do a pre-purchase inspection, should cost between $115-$200 and worth the peace of mind.

I browsed a bit and a great deal would be around $27K. I don't think $29K is terrible.

i felt that 26-27k might be a good deal. They are asking $2500 for extended warranty. I personally don't want to cross 30k with registration. Not sure if thats aggressive..

$29,000 is a fair dealer asking price. It cannot be L/Certified due to its mileage. Would pass on whatever warranty the dealer is offering and either shop elsewhere or forego one altogether. Many good deals go bad in the dealer finance office!

MMR on that car shows $25,100 with a value-neutral CR and adjusted for mileage and region. Expected retail is $29,200. Ideally, assuming the car checks out, you'd want to be no more than $26,500 -$27,000. Prices on these things are bordering on free-fall right now. That mileage is really close to the point where a steep drop in value occurs.

Thats a rare car, if its in good shape and everything checks out, I'd buy it.

I would totally buy it! We paid $39,500 two years ago for a 2013 non-L/SWB Nebula Gray with Flaxen UL, at 70K miles.

We have not had any issues with what I believe is the original air suspension at 101K miles so far. Do have the inspector go over the following items though:

-Make sure ambient light strip (left of steering wheel and above glove box) are working or else it is over $300 for dealer to fix.
-Check VIN to ensure the attached battery drain update has been applied to 2013 LSes.
-Have mechanic double check beneath the car, near the transmission bell housing, to make sure no coolant is dripping down from the valley plate. It is rare but our 2013 had the leak at 96K-miles and needed a $500 visit to the mechanic. It is possible the leak was present at 70K-miles because I kept having to add a little bit of coolant at every 5K-mile oil change and it progressively got worse. LS 460 coolant leak

Best of luck on the potential purchase! Also wanted to add that the LS rides just as well at 101K miles as it did at 70K miles -- there has been no drop off in comfort or ride quality, but I will be due for tires again soon.

Do you have a link, did you go on the Lexus owners site and check the history. I would still get a PPI done, maybe at a different Lexus dealership or Toyota dealership or a indy you really trust. I would not pay $2500 for a extended warranty, air suspension is always a risk you have to consider.

Hi.

I hope you can get a good deal. You might check with credit union, if member, as they have extended warranty insurance.

Might be an option for you.

Good luck

I was able to purchase a 6 year/48K extended bumper to bumper warranty for my 2010 LS600hL from CNA for $2800 ($220 deductible). My car had 66k miles at the time, so you car warranty should cost about the same. It covers all of the problematic components (control arms, air shocks, brake actuator, ML Amp, hybrid batteries, etc.). I haven't had to use it yet, but I'm guessing I will sometime in the next 5.5 years!

Thats my concern, the car might hit a huge depreciation in a year or so. I offered 25,500. The dealer is asking 2900 + 995(dealer fees) + sales tax + registration. so having second thoughts about it. I don't want to get hit by huge depreciation.

Thanks , I'll get it inspected.

A $995 dealer fee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That must be the largest known to mankind. Aren't such charges capped at $80 in the Golden State?
