Shocker! dealer trying to get in your wallet. Service writers are trained to go after any green they can get. They are on commission and can charge whatever they feel they can get you to pay. Just like car salesmen. No difference. The gloves are off In the service and parts department. All trained by high priced consulting companys owners were sold on at dealer twenty meetings. Fight for what they owe you and stay off their lot after that. I lived it I know the drill.

This probably works for them most of the time. It just gives me a bad feeling about Lexus warranties. Now I wonder if the other items were completed on the 60,000 service.
That's interesting that they would try for what sounds like a double recovery. Recently I had a major brake repair totaling over $2400 done on my 2011 460L under either a TSB or warranty enhancement I forget and about 2-3 weeks later Lexus corporate sent me a letter basically stating that they were reimbursing my dealer for repairs done on my car that were no charge to me and they were requesting that I respond to them and confirm what I brought the car in for and that the repairs were actually done and that I had knowledge of it. I took this as they want me to confirm that my car was in for service and had these repairs done and that the dealer wasn't just fraudulently billing them for service on a car that never was there. Maybe the dealers don't know they send these letters out.

Just basic info for those that are interested. Since i got a 2014 and in minnesota, the pricing reflects what dealership charge here. Don't know if its the same elsewhere.

Very interesting. Thanks. After I finish with the free/included factory service, I will be looking for an ideoendent service center that knows Lexus. But my concern is how to find one that is experienced on Lexus.

BTW, just got an email from lexus SA.... $1104.70 out the door price for 60k service, new battery and installation. Just in case anyone looking on pricing.. I just omit the "in between" services...

posted on another tread and considering changing out battery. MN had been cold lately. Blizzard warning right now and wind at 50-60mph... Snow plows is discontinuing service until tomorrow.

Since my battery is 4-5 years old, thinking to change it out. Side note, didn't know lexus battery has warranty for 84months...

I would shop that with an independent. I bet you save $400-500.

Call Toyota dealership(s) nearby and see if they have any certified Lexus techs. I have been taking both of our Lexus vehicles to Toyota for several years now - both my service advisor and his lead tech both came from a Lexus dealership and have been able to do 99% of needed maintenance and non-routine repairs (only thing they sent me to Lexus for was hydraulic suspension replacement on my LX which was out of their wheel house and covered under Lexus warranty). I'm very happy and have been saving quite a bit of money given the cheaper hourly labor rate.

Also look for indy shops that specialize in higher end cars (Euro luxury makes like MB, BMW, etc) and see if they service Lexus.

Yeah, Thanks for the input. Unfortunately i live in middle of nowhere little town MN (pop 4k). I do not have too much confidence in the 3 car repair shop in town (inside knowledge).

There is an indy 50 mins away which i have been using. Interestingly my wife's toyota sienna will need spark plugs changed out (mileage= 125k) which the Toyota dealer quote $420 for 1 hour work. The indy wants "slightly more" than $450 since "it will take ~3 hour job" I just smile...

To be fair, i have been using this indy for my lexus 5k engine oil and filter changes and it always costs me $96.50 (they "highly" recommend every 5k engine oil changes)

I would appreciate it if anyone can recommend a good indy in minneapolis/ St Paul (even though this will be ~2hrs away)

Going forward, i think i will change out engine oil/filter every 10k- since that is what is in the lexus maintenance anyway. Whether it will be at the stealership or and indy, depends on reliability and price...

Anyway, in case anyone is interested, i will list out the charges and work done, so as to help someone... I did get lower price than the "usual" and understands the dealer definitely makes money out of me. Price for convenience i guess..

rotate tires and inspection $39.99
engine air filter part $47.98 (ouch!) labor $16.99
interior air filter part $29.99 (yeah, i know) labor $49.99 - i guess fair since if i break that plastic thing...
spark plugs part $143.92 labor $299.98 (ouch! Holy mother!)
smart key $5
brake flush part $20.91 labor $89.40 (sheesh!)
environmental fees/ shop supplies (yeah right!) $23.37

i don’t understand why anyone would pay someone else to replace engine air filters or cabin air filters. But to each his own I guess. There’s no way to break the plastic thing if you put the ac on recirculate and you see the filter...

Its just a PITA. I'd rather pay somebody $65 to do it.

Its all good. Everyone only got 24 hours a day in their life. I am not handy and the fear of messing things up are definitely there. I suppose i am not car enthusiast enough to undertake all the projects. Avoiding PITA has certain value to me. Hope someone can benefit from the info since i went through the service.

it takes 15-20 minutes tops, like I said there are some jobs I won’t do, or can’t , but u don’t need any tools or a garage to do this. Not really judging I just dislike giving the dealer any money as it is lol but that’s just me

I know, I've done it. I'd still rather just have them do it while they have it there for service.
