Sticky/cracked interior panel customer support program notification - ZLZ
ADDENDUM:
The ZLZ program has since expired. For those that were unable to have this done, be advised that it did not cover ALL LS460s. It applied only to specific VIN number ranges. I feel very lucky to have qualified.
I am still amazed that Lexus was even able to obtain the parts for such an elderly car. Lexus should be praised for even attempting to correct a problem so far past warranty. What other company has ever done such a thing?
P.S.
The panels were not sticky unless the interior was HOT so I waited until a hot day and drove to the dealer with windows closed and AC off. Dealer initially denied repairs but after writing a letter to Lexus HQ, repairs were approved.

A brief addendum: The dash panel just to the left of the radio/CD head unit ... and to the right of it (and left of the glove box assy as mentioned above) were not replaced but after all the other panels WERE replaced their chalkiness really stood out. I bought a bottle of '303 Aerospace Protectant' at O'Reilly (for about $14 for 10 ounces), used it to soak the panels pretty good for about five minutes, wiped 'em up and about 95% of chalkiness was gone. So if you have chalkiness in your panels that you did not get replaced, you might give this 303 Aerospace sauce a try.

I just bought an 07 a few months ago and have the sticky dash. I contacted corporate and they said the replacement time had expired and they didn’t offer any help. The trim by the shifter and the glove box and lower door trims were replaced but the dash didn’t get replaced and I can’t figure out why not. I’m considering checking some salvage yards for some parts and you might have some luck that way.
On the other hand! I finally saw the service record for my car through the Lexus driver website and I was relieved that my 4 panels were changed, also previous owner complained about tint and had the car re tinted.
Which was a terrible job. They put the film on top of the older one and when I bought the car it was pealing out from the bottom of the window and was a pita to have both removed.
I wonder if they would re tint under a life time tint warranty which a lot of shops provide. I don’t know I might just pay for it at a professional tint shop.
It's not just the denial (which is bogus in itself). It's that I've also been told for so long (and it's entered on the driver's portal) that my doors are on order. Both the dealer and customer support have claimed things are on order. AND that I had to jump through hoops to even get the process started. The original person I spoke to at the dealership acted as if he wasn't aware of the ZLZ program even though I had a printout of the form. One of my later visits, another service rep basically said "Oh, yeah. We do these all the time".

I've given up. I've spoken to Lexus corp many times and they agree that it looks as if I should have expected to have the door panels replaced based on service portal entries from the dealer. They Lexus corp person said they attempted communication with the my local dealer AND their regional rep and have never heard back. They were asked to reach back out to me which never happened either. The Lexus corp person said there's actually nothing they can do to get the dealer to honor what they had told me they were doing for 2 years. I don't know what the point of Lexus corp is if they can't communicate with their own dealership.
I've got a pretty low impression of the Lexus experience at this point.
The unconstrained (regardless of age or mileage) deadline for filing under ZLZ was March 31, 2021. The constraint in effect NOW for ZLZ is 'within 10 years of date of service, regardless of mileage.' The 2014 LS460 is the last year covered under the program. So, yes, some vehicles still do qualify.
Fast forward a while...

Hopefully you have some kind of paperwork from the dealership showing they told you they were going to take care of you. The day we made the appointment for me to bring my vehicle back to be evaluated for ZLZ, the appointment paperwork stated that was the purpose of the appointment. If your dealership did not ever ask you to bring your vehicle in for ZLZ evaluation, sounds to me as though they never intended to help you get the work done in the first place.
If you do have some kind of paperwork then maybe you can use it to get Lexus Corporate to force a solution. And, if it were me, I'd want that solution to involve having the work done at a different dealership. Because if you have to get nasty with a shop, you don't really want to allow that shop to ever have the opportunity to have its hands on your vehicle again.
As an aside, know that car manufacturers do not directly own their dealerships. And it is often a sort of love-hate, tug-of-war relationship. Manufacturers are often not happy with how dealerships behave, but manufacturers have been unable to find a channel anywhere near as effective for retailing/selling its vehicles than the independently-owned dealership model. So the manufacturers cannot always force a dealership to do its bidding, so to speak.
I am sorry that you had so much trouble getting your ZLZ enhanced warranty work. Best wishes,

Take note of what I mentioned above. It appears that the dealership has to "eat the labor costs" associated with doing the ZLZ work. Perhaps that was the motivation for the behaviors of your dealership. The dealership had to submit paperwork and photos to Lexus Corporate and get the ZLZ work approved in advance (of even the parts being fabricated). If your dealership did not submit that paperwork, again, the bottom line is perhaps that their 'hidden agenda' was to avoid doing the ZLZ labor for you out of their own pocket. Lexus corporate is sort of off the hook here, in that if they got no paperwork from the dealership prior to the deadline, then they had nothing to approve.

I wouldn't be so upset if I was originally told the door panels weren't getting replaced. But I WAS told they'd be replaced, several times over a year and a half. I went in for 2 rounds of pictures (they lost the first set). I sent in pictures at their request after they lost the first round they took (found out later these didn't qualify, hence the second visit for pictures).
I don't have any official paperwork stating so. I do have an email from the service manager stating the door panels are to be replaced and are on order AND an entry on my Lexus service history stating the door panels are on order. Other than that the confirmation I got was verbally on the phone over the year and a half after first contact.
Lexus corp knows of the entry on the service portal and still claim to not be able to do anything but email the dealership and local dealer reps. I've asked to be emailed about my case(s) with Lexus corp and to be CC'd on emails to the dealer and reps but Lexus corp claims they can't/won't do that. I did ask Lexus corp about switching dealerships. They informed me I would have to start the ZLZ claim process over. The ZLZ program had officially expired by the time I had gotten to the point of trying another dealer.
Short of going into the dealership that's already been unhelpful and raising a stink I don't think I have anything left I can do.

I didn't have the issue when/if I ever got the notice a few years back, and just started having this sticky dash thing recently. Noticed it a couple weeks ago when I was cleaning the interior of my '12 is350. After searching I found about the ZLZ extension, but since my car was bought at the end of 2011, I'm likely out of luck. I don't know it's even worth my time and effort to try contacting dealers or corporate, unless others have been successful in getting this repair done after the 10 years since date of first use.
My primary car was luckily taken care of with the ZLZ program. That is what most of this thread is for. But have any of you decided to pay the full price to get it done outside of warranty? Did you have any success with the dealer and what did it cost?
Thank you,
Jeffrey

hello sir,
could you please help me how to write a letter to Lexus HQ, my grandpa passed away and leave me his 2010 LS460 with a sticky and gummy interior. I came to local dealer twice they refuse me rudely and told me it expired. they are trying to refuse instead of help. A nice service agent told me they have made the ZLZ contract but their manager refuse that. so sad

I was not notified, even going to the Lexus dealer for regular maintenance, when I discovered the plan was already too late, called Toyota USA and they denied any replacement Is there any way to get it???.
