common problems with LS 2013+
I'm thinking of purchasing a LS 460L 2013, latest generation. I know that previous generation have some common problems (air suspension, control arms...) , but does the issues follows the next generations ?
Coming from a ES, thanks.

I also came from an ES for a little bit. I love my 14 F Sport. No issues so far not sure what to expect seems like a solid car so far. I already driven 25k miles in less than 1 year!

I love my ES 2008, still i mint condition, but the price of the LS 2013 has dropped dramastically. I'm familiar with the older generation, but nothing about the latest gen, considering i'm buying the first year of production.

I recently shopped '13+ models hard for a couple for a couple of months and looked at A LOT of service histories of various mileages. Did not see any pattern of problems, but did note rare and isolated instances of some pre-'13 issues. The vast majority of cars were trouble-free regardless of age or mileage. That said, my gut says it's still a bit early to know for sure how the '13+ will fare over time.

They appear trouble free because the jury is still out. They are only 5+ years old. The suspension parts are pretty much the same since 2007. The front upper control arms take the most beating because of twisting and turning and the rubber bushing will only endure so much over the years. I've been spraying silicon on mine to prevent them from drying out. The radiator is still the same one that goes back to 2007 with the small tube on top of the radiator that gets brittle breaks off after 8 to 10 years if you are not careful working around it. I broke mine even with warning from the forum and it happens to almost everyone. The water pump is the same and may start leaking at 8 to 10 years. The trim quality is better and so far no reports of stuff failing in warm weather climates.

One similar issue is the weather strip around the moonroof dries out like older gen. One of our members found coolant leak on his 13. Mine is AWD and it has 45k miles and no issues so far. Try to find one with good maintenance record. Good luck.

The only two main ones I can think of are mentioned above.
1. the ambient light strip above the glove box, it seems to get spotty and go out (uneven light dispersement)
2. the moonroof weather strip drying out.. it is a whole unit so if out of warranty the replacement which includes the glass is about 800 dollars from the dealer, maybe more with labor.

I recently purchased a '13 LS460 F Sport on Lexus CPO. And within a month of ownership, the front engine mounts had to be replaced. This at 50K miles on the clock! Really?!! Funny how no one at Lexus was overly concerned about it. My advice? Don't touch it with out Lexus Certified CPO warranty coverage!!

I bought a 2013 a few months ago after owning a 2007 for 5 years. The 2013 is a step up in elegance and a very nice car. When friends ride it it the first time, they immediately think it is brand new. I have to bite my tounge before finally admitting it is 5 years old. I feel very good about the 80k on the clock as I got the CPO plus three year extended warranty so now don’t have to worry about anything for 5 years, unlimited miles, bumper to bumper.
A few issues: the ac makes a motor noise of some kind when car is first started and for about 10 minutes or so, then goes away. I feel like it has a whine noise and should have had the whine TSB done by the previous owner. But I am used to it now and not a problem, dealer quoted $1,200 to do the TSB. Naw, that’s ok for now.
My 2007 did not have ML and this one does, so, I am overjoyed with the music quality. Even with blue tooth audio it sounds great. I’m not much for lugging around a bunch of cd’s.

The Honda Shin-Etsu grease is the solution of choice of CLers. It will keep the rubber supple.
