Melting Interior Alternatives
Well, I am thinking about alternatives to repairing my melting interior. I have reached out to Lexus corporate and they are not willing to replace my interior due to mileage and a rebuilt title on my LS460. I have been thinking about pulling all interior vinyl pieces and taking them to an upholstery shop to be wrapped, but I'm always looking for DIY ways I can handle anything. That got me thinking about old car builds I've done in the past (mainly my old 240sx days) and has anyone considering Flocking these panels and Dashboard. I would compare flocking the dash with having an upholstery shop wrap everything with suede. I've noticed that there are a few threads with IS and ISF guys talking about doing this, but didn't see any comments in the LS area. Thoughts???
Also, does anyone have pics of a LS dash or interior pieces that have been wrapped in suede? I'd like to get an idea of the finished product. |
interesting idea. Another suggestion would be to get used pieces off eBay. Some models of the LS had real leather and not the troublesome plastic material that ended up melting. Plenty of used ones on eBay. Might even be cheaper than having the pieces wrapped in suede.

I just recieved a letter today from Lexus that my car is covered under new program to Replace all worn defected interior parts..I'm definitely excited since it bugs me..I'll b calling to schedule a appointment tomorrow
|
@gjohnson .. ... This program isn't effected by mileage but Sadly the letter States that the vehicle can't b a rebuilt or salvage title.. my car is a 07 with 160k

Nice. Hope goes well and update as you can. |
That's pretty good - covered until March 2021. My car shows no signs of stickiness yet, but at least I have another 2.5 years to keep an eye on things.

I got the same letter too! |
Did you guys do anything to have Lexus send you the letter?
I've got a 2007 with sticky panels. Wondering how they decided to send you letters? |
Yeah, I definitely need one of those letters!
Driver's door, passenger's door, glove box, center console, rear door panels, too. The dash isn't bad, yet, but I can see it slowly degrading. |
Mine is a 07 .. I think they are going by Vin number.. I'm assuming they're going by the years and cars that were installed with these cheap sticky interior parts
