Window Replacement
Driving today, a big POP happened and I have a blemish on my window. No rock NADA. It was weird as HELL.
Suggestions on replacements? |
OEM is the only option if you are concerned with wind noise, glare reduction, and all the tech working as it does now. If those are of little concern to you there are aftermarket options, but they won't be on the same level as the OEM glass made for these cars.

If its the side windows, its fairly easy to DIY. I replaced mines in a total time of about 30 min after someone tried to make my belongings theirs. Windshield would be totally different though for a DIY.

It's the front windshield and it just happened. I'm pretty sure it was not done by a rock. There were no trucks in front of me!

For that I'd call Safelite and let them see what they can do with it before trying to go with a replacement. Your insurance should cover it so it would likely be free for them to come out and give it a go, and you still get to keep the OEM glass. What do you have to lose?

I got a chip in mine two weeks ago in a trip to DC. Man I hate driving in that city. None the less a mobile unit came out and did the repair and I am happy with it. I also did not want to replace the windshield. The person that did the repair told me that there are only about two windshield companies that make glass for the car companies and that they do not make their own glass. He told me that most people do not know that he can get aftermarket glass that is identical to the OEM from the same manufacture 40-50% less. I do not know if it is true or not but it makes sense. I see you are in NC - I am in Raleigh and the person that did my repair was called sharkys - good luck.

Not the same UVA and UVB and infrared absorbation/rejection as the oem, dash gets hotter, More glare. A/c was set for oem. Does not seem calibrated for the aftermarket glass. you can see it’s not the same tint. May replace the windshield with a oem one |
Help. Just had my new 2019 ES windshield replaced with OEM windshield done thru dealership. Now we are experiencing a bad glare from lights at night and when using the wipers it is leaving a film that will eventually go away, but not right away, which could cause a road hazard.
Took it back to dealership and they are clueless. They did a sublet, shouldn't they let them try to fix problem. Cost $1889 to replace. Not happy. |
If that chip is directly in your line of sight then the windshield needs to be replaced. No reputable company will attempt to repair it. I bought a certified 2015 UL ES350 a few months ago. The dealer replaced the windshield with OEM glass.
