Greeting from Holland,
I had exactly the same problem with my steering wheel a couple of years ago...…….steering wheel offset 45 degrees, check vsc and vgrs warning. My local Lexus dealer has looked after me (400/460) for 15 years and I trust them. Having read about this problem on the forum - and dreading a very expensive steering control box change - I took my car in.
There are only a handful of 460's in Holland and this was the first time they had encountered this problem. When I mentioned the steering box changes I had read, about they were VERY sceptical. They gave me a loan car and off I went. Next morning they called to tell me it was fixed.
Their guys had done a complete electronics diagnostic and found a corrupted programme in the Self Parking System - which I never use. They had re-set the programme and everything was normal. The problem has not re-occurred.
Even better was the fact that they had used the problem and diagnosis as a 'teach-in' for the newer technicians and only charged me $110.

I was also worried about having to replace major parts and I was kind of worried but for the first time I kept my cool and just tried not to worry about it.
My VGRS system is working now and after driving around for an hour or so today the car seems to be fine except for my control arm and alignment issues.
I think my control arm was so bad that is caused a major aligment issue, the computer sensed something was wrong and turned the VGRS system off and threw some codes letting me know there was a problem.

Ok just to bring some conclusion to this thread, what happened to me was the lower , rearward , control arm bushings FAILED.
They gave out causing the cars alignment to go way out of wack
This triggered the VSC+VGRS to shut off and throw warning codes.
My mechanic removed the codes with the computer and told me the bushings are worn and need to be replaced, which I did. (replaced with PSB urethane bushings from Armstrong)
The steering wheel was still way off centre after the bushing replacement so I took it in to a independent lexus tech for a full alignment as well as I asked them to re-calibrate the steering position and everything is back to 100%
So this is one reason why its important not to delaye maintenance on the bushings if they need to be done, have them done, because it can trigger other issues that may be hard to diagnose and end up costing you a lot more money

Did you guys have any trouble codes when you looked into the VGRS issue? I looked mine up but it's still pretty vague, It's claiming that the steering actuator or wiring harness is the issue. However the dealership reset the codes before and the car ran great until I drove over a bump. Which is why I'm assuming my check vgrs issue comes from bad bushings but I'm not sure if our trouble codes are similar or not.

Hi all. Had the same problem recently. Replaced both front upper arms and then got the VGRS and VSC on the dash. Code C1289 (VGRS Control System Malfunction).
Unable to clear the DTCs with standard OBD2 reader. Got myself Techstreem software and cable on Ebay for around 60 euros.
Took some time too install and find my way around Techstreem but well worth it.
Went to the VGRS system on Techstreem, then to CALIBRATE, simple step by step procedure where as by you center the front wheels, then electrically disconnect the steering wheel from the rack, then center the steering wheel, and reconnect the pin, (all done through your computer, not manually) .
All in all about 5 minute job and no codes afterwards.
Hope this helps.
Thanks,
James

Hey guys I have a 2008 ls460L with the vgrs and vsc codes on, they’re permanently on and cannot be cleared, my alignment isn’t great, but the steering works completely fine and everything, I really don’t want to have to, the codes didn’t come on while I was driving they came on when I turned the car on one morning
