Default 2008 LS`460 Low Beam Headlight Replacement

Well, wouldn't you know it, my recently purchased 2008 LS 460 decided it was time for the low beam headlight on the driver's side to go out. Now I'm a one-eye, and an incentive for every police officer to pull me over. In searching the owner's manual I see instructions on changing the high beam headlight, and the fog light, and the rear lights, but when it comes to the low beam headlight the manual says "See your Lexus Service Dept". In looking the light up I see where it runs about $175.00. Can anyone give me direction on how to make sure both my eyes are open? Is it something a person who is somewhat mechanically inclined, and has more mechanically inclined friends, can do himself/themselves? One point to consider is that the operation of the low beam headlight is intermittent. It will come on when the car is started and then it will go out. Also, the car does not give me a warning that a headlight is out, but I haven't made sure that it is capable of doing that.

You guys helped me when I couldn't get my windows up. Please help again to get both of my eyes opened.

Thanks in advance.

Replace both of them so they will be the same color.

Thanks. Looked thru and saw where all you have to do to get to the low beam bulb is remove the wheel well liner. You can easily get to the bulb assembly after that. It seems simple enough. I'll have to order a new low beam bulb now.

Have a friend who has a Cadillac. He had to take the whole bumper off his car to replace the headlight. I am sure that wheel well liner removal is a lot easier.

Just did this on my LS. It's a 30 minute job if you have done it before. The first time is about an hour.

You must remove the wheel. Only experienced pros can do it with the wheel on.

But think of the $600 you will save by not having it done by the sDealer.

Definitely remove the wheel for an easier job. And be careful with the plastic screws on the headliner especially if someone removed them prior because they can get damaged easily.

Happy to report success in replacing the low beam headlight. I did remove the wheel and the wheel well liner. Couldn't get the bulb cover back on unless I did so. I think I replaced more push pin retainers than I removed, but that's OK. While I was at it I replaced both "Nike" swoosh light bulbs. That's a treat too.

Tomorrow I am going to try to find out why my fog lights don't light up. Hope all of the other lights I replace work tomorrow!

I'll kee you informed.
