Soooo I personally find the popular $150+ exhaust vents being sold a little too much for 2 tiny pieces of metal and 2 new bolts. So I did it myself its VERY easy and i will provide pics, part numbers and a sound video so that you can do it yourself and save quite a bit of money. Also with the way its done here compared to the oliver model, the sound escaping has a smooth ramp to exit rather than a hole thus producing a better sound.
Materials required: 2 exhaust flanges, 2-4 exhaust gaskets, 14mm socket, grinder. Paint is optional but recommended.
First you will need to buy 2 exhaust flanges. I used this part number from NAPA (i work there). #31886
After this you will need to take an angle grinder with a grinding disc and TO YOUR LIKING, grind off as much or little as you want on the bottom depending on how much sound want. If you want it subtle be easy on the grinding, you dont need much at all to get that much more sound out. This is how much I did:
After that, I would recommend sanding and painting the flange with a high temp ceramic paint with 2-3 coats because moisture will escape out the vent and rust it quick.
Time to install. I forgot the gasket part numbers but if you go to NAPA or another parts store have them match a gasket to the flange. This is not a perfect seal with one gasket, so 2 gaskets per flange would be ideal but not required. I used 1 on each flange but may go back and get 2 per flange (sandwiching the flange). Take out the old exhaust donut gasket. The stock bolts have enough room still to grab that I would consider acceptable.
It's not about the cost, or the tech (a stack of washers will achieve the same results, and has for MANY years), it's about supporting someone who is taking the time to produce stuff for a vehicle that all too often is forgotten in the aftermarket, save for appearance mods.
Could I have taken the time to make them myself? Sure. Would it have been difficult? No. But that's not really the point, at least not for me.
Flame throwers are about to come out. Thanks for the pics. I've searched for a pic of these things and no one has ever provided one. I like my car as quiet as possible so I'm not really into this sort of thing but many on here really like it. Kudos to Oliver but options are always good. I don't think the OP is trying to discredit him, he just stated his opinion and suggested an alternative.
I have the OE single stack and I do like them.
I'm not saying the OP's setup is bad in any way however I do have a question that is a serious one, rather than one that sounds like a moronic one:
So given that you have these gaskets that as you stated and showed above were not a clear fit, would the stress/tolerances over time you think from the flexing and decompressing of metals, cause the bolts/studs to deteriorate quicker?
I suppose this could happen with the OE setup, however with my OE setup they are meshed in perfectly and the only thing that is 'out' of place is the vents which point downward as another member pointed out as well. In either case, I figure it's just a question I asked out of curiosity more than anything and it perhaps could be just answered by someone more informed by me, to say "no!"
The sounds is good, I would say it's neat to have attempted this and it's still a fair option for those that may not want to go the OE route, but I'm still very happy I did.
He doesn't share pics freely so we don't want to be the ones to do so, although if you look hard enough he has posted what looks like a CAD drawing of the vents. It's really not rocket science, they were exactly what I expected them to be when they showed up and the quality was good. Definitely looks more "stock" from below than the option above.
Like I said This is not my kind of mod but I was interested in what it looked like and how they functioned. I saw the drawing and was not really satisfied. I found it strange that NO ONE has posted pics and I believe I even inquired about it and he responded but did not provided one. I took that to mean he thinks someone might copy his design and requests that buyers not post pics of the product which is probably a smart decision.
Hey sha4000 - I'm sorry if I didn't send you a pic. I'll check my emails and see if I can find yours. I'm about 80% certain that somewhere (maybe in one of the linked threads in my signature) that there is a picture of just the Exhaust Vents. I don't remember exactly. But they do look like the CAD picture as mentioned.
Now let me address the elephant in the room.
pa1nt13all - I don't blame you at all for doing what you have done. Nor do I have any ill will. Because from a 1,000 foot view, I did nearly the same thing. However, I was so surprised that it sounded so good, I decided to make it something that is EASILY available to other 4LS owners. So that they don't have to go purchase materials, tools, fasteners, paint, etc, and elbow grease it all out for themselves. I am an engineer, so when I decided to make this available, I can't help myself but to do it top notch for anyone who would be willing to spend their hard earned $ to bother to buy it. That took me some $ to develop. I will admit to you guys … I'm not getting rich doing this. I have to pay to be a vendor. That cost plus the cost of everything that goes into it, well if I were a bean counter, I would bet that I'm in the red.
But I'm not letting that bother me. The Oliver Enterprises Exhaust Vents are a very nice mod to a very nice car. And for $125 (shipped) for a standard single set, or $135 for a Stealth single set (shipped), (which I think it quite cheap compared to the next most similar mod to achieve virtually the same thing) to have something in a customers hands in 2 to 3 days, ready to install is worth it. Versus sourcing parts, and doing the labor to grind it to the shape wanted, doing the painting, finding bolts etc. Anyway - No harm / No foul, this is a free country brother!
But for the people like me with little kids, work, house, etc., we don't just have the time to do anything else. So buying the vents from Oliver makes tons of sense.
I just brought the car to a muffler shop and got them installed. No elbow grease or need to get underneath the car.
Thanks Kuhan - That's why I went through the trouble. For guys like you (and all you guys). I have 3 sons. But they're older now, they don't come running to the door when "daddy's home!" I generally have to go to their room if I want to talk to them. So I have a bit more time than I did 10 years ago.

I am still not sure if I want an exhaust leak in a well engineered car. I know so small not that big a deal.
But of all the post I have seen this one is by far the best willing to show everything. Flange itself and installed.
Jason is a "True Gentleman" and that is why he understands a DIY thread and has no problems with it.
Buy the EZ install vents from Jason and he will guarantee that you will be satisfied or your money back...... A "no brainer" if you are on the fence about these vents.
