Default 2012 LS600hL

Hello forum friends! My search for my next LS continues. I’ve honestly been all over the map with my search, looking hard at a 2008 LS460L for $17,900 (almost pulled the trigger on that one) and also nearly striking a deal on a 2010 LS460L AWD ($21,900 at Lexus of Omaha).

i just discovered a pretty nice looking deal on a 2012 LS600hL (located at a Porsche dealer in Atlanta). Car has nearly every available option, including the Executive seating package, is a 1-owner, and has 66k miles. Being offered now at at $38,900. I offered $34k to see how badly the dealer wanted to sell, and they came back saying that’s just a bit too aggressive for them at this point (but made it sound like it wasn’t far off).

here’s the link: https://porscheatlantaperimeter.com/...tallic+1729775

The Carfax reports damage last year to the rear end, but no actual accident history. The detailed Lexus service history shows a perfect service record, with every 5k service completed on time. Looks like some minor body damage back in 2012 also, but repaired by the Lexus dealer.

KBB shows retail of $38,500 roughly. I’m not sure I want to risk the hybrid battery failure, but I did really love my 2008 LS600hL and regret trading it in last year. I really like the instrument cluster on the 2012s!

If I could convince my local Lexus dealer to bring this one in and Certify it, I could buy the extended CPO warranty and have it fully covered until 2025.

Any thoughts from the forum on this one? Thanks!

MIleage is a tad high, decent service history every 7-8k miles but how about this all-the-options-except-AWD 13 LS460L?

If my wife would let me, I'd seriously consider the 13 in a heartbeat...

Hi Riknchar, you really miss the hybrid, don't you!

IMO, in the price range you are looking (mid to high 30s), you will be able to find a moderate mileage (60-70K) 2013 UltraLux 460L with all the bells and whistles (DRCC, APCC,LKA, BSM, RCTA). I have seen those recently, but none showed up in a quick search just now. I prefer the UltraLux to the Executive package, but knowing your family status, it probably makes little difference to you. The 2012 hL does not have BSM, RCTA, APCC or LKA. With a 2013+, you are also moving up in terms of technology and other major improvements that came with the 2013 refresh.

Regarding the CPO certification, maybe you know something, but I doubt very much that you can buy this car, then take it to your local Lexus dealer for CPO certification. That's not how the CPO process works.

RiknChar, this is a great car! You may have to fight Wandl over it! It's got ALL the options I listed, and is an Executive package rather than UltraLux. It's 90K miles and RWD, but the price looks very good, maybe even 30K? This listing did not show up in my search.

AC, I’ve had a good relationship with my local Lexus dealer, and have had success in the past in finding the right Lexus online and having them negotiate to buy the car, ship it to Omaha, certify it, and resell it to me. They do charge around $500 for the CPO inspection (highway robbery!) and $1500 for the CPO warranty, but they are fairly easy to work with and I think that’s the only way I’d finangle a warranty on this 2012 LS600HL.

the 2013 looks decent also, but I really don’t want black and $90k miles is sort of at the upper edge of what I’m looking for. I’m really not in any huge hurry, and enjoy the hunt. I would probably be better off with a loaded LS460L than a 600hL in any event, but I do admire the true Lexus flagship LS600HL! The Executive seating is not critical to me, but would be very cool and unique. I do know I was pretty bummed by the depreciation hit I took on my LS600HL, and have been looking for an older LS460L (2008-2012) in the $20-25k range to minimize depreciation. I like the body style and interior of the 2008-2012 models just fine, though I don’t really mind the 2013 upgrade either.

How about these LS460Ls ?

Comfort Plus Package and no Airshocks. Both well below 100K miles. I had my eye on these but someone needs to buy my 2008 swb for my asking price before I can entertain it

I'd rather have a 13 LS460L highly optioned than a 12 LS600hL, although that 12 at that Porsche dealer is really nice...

Your situation is what kept me from getting the G90 before I got my 2017, I just had a feeling this would happen to me and once the vanity wore off I wouldn't feel as fulfilled by the car.

Steve, Yeah, I think you made the right call. The G90 is a very nice car, there’s no doubt, and the feature set for the $$ is outstanding. For me, though, I definitely missed my LS, and I know I’ll be happier back in a nice 460L or another 600hL. It’s tough to account for the intangible feeling of luxury you get from the LS...

So the Atlanta Porsche dealer has grudgingly accepted my offer of $34k for their 2012 LS600hL. Now I have to make a final decision on whether to buy this car at that price...

Seems to me to be a pretty sweet deal for this car. The car is pretty loaded up, and has a complete Lexus service history. KBB retail is quite a bit higher, and I do think the car is worth $34k. Most of the early issues had been worked out by 2012, and I really prefer the older style body.

Any last thoughts from the forum on this car? I know Steve is more in favor of a 2013+ version, but I’m pretty taken by the older body and I love the 2012 instrument cluster in the LS600hLs...

It’s minor differences and preferences. I think the 13+ cars are significantly more modern inside and out which is why I would go that way, and the concerns you had about the repair costs of the 600h still exist, all those reasons are why I would personally get a 13+ 460L for that money.

BUT, that’s a sharp car and looks to be in great shape. If that’s what speaks to you, I can’t imagine you finding a nicer pre- 13 600hL than that one

Did you get to test drive a 2013+ and thoroughly play with all the toys ? I didn't see that in your post. Your budget get you a 2013. I like to 2017-2012 as well then recently I saw a nice grayish blue 2013+ LS460L with 19s drive by I was finally sold on the look.

This is a good problem to have! Personally, I like the 2013+ style and, of course, the additional technology: not just the bigger NAV screen but also BSM, etc. Having said this, I'm not sure I could go 600hL to LS460L.

The 600 is a very special animal, as you know (and need I remind you that you were one of the few that put the "crazy" idea in my head to get one back in 2014!), and that cluster is something special, for sure . We don't have BSM, but we do get the self-park (totally gimmicky, but cool) feature. That, and the special cluster

I've been getting ready to offer you my car (spoken tongue-in-cheek), but at that price, if everything else checks out, it looks like this might be a winner.

They a pretending to grudgingly accept your offer. I bet that thing would have sat and dropped dramatically in price till they gave it away.
The 2012 is now even older looking with the new LS500 out.

Caha: I’d buy your 2010 LS600 in a heartbeat if you really wanted to sell it! I know you got it from my friends at Lexus of Omaha, and I’m sure you’ve pampered it accordingly since 2014!

I know the smartest thing to do would be to buy a 460L with a solid Lexus history. I really do love the LS600s though, and if the worst thing that could happen is sudden hybrid battery failure, that’s probably not all that bad for years of amazing car ownership.

Still some details to be worked out on the Atlanta LS600HL. Any of our forum friends live in Atlanta? I get scared buying a car sight unseen!

Thanks to to all for the thoughts! I love this forum!

Rick,

I am anxiously watching how you navigate this long distance purchase. I will be in the same boat in the next few months. All of the 460's I have found with the options I am looking for are at least 400 miles away or more. I know that Lemon Squad will do remote inspections but relying on someone else to qualify the vehicle is a bit scary. I have never purchased long distance.

Hopefully you can find a local CL member in Atlanta to check it out for you.
