A v6 is an unbalanced machine finessed to feel balanced. A turbo-straight 6 is a better piece and you can read all about MB's v6 delete from the S in the euro market in the attached link. Perhaps the v6 was poorly received

MB is bringing the straight 6 to the S Class in the US next year also, the V6 is just a stopgap here.

It does not make sense why Lexus does not offer the LS with a high output twin turbo V8. Really kind of boggles the mind. It doesn't take a large displacement to produce ample power. Look what Audi does with the 4.0 in the S8.

I don't know why they did not just use the 8 cylinder from the LC or GS-F for around 440hp for the new LS or even tune the LS460 8 cylinder for another 25hp or so until they get a new V8. They need a V8 in this class and it would be better to debut with some kind of V8 or V8 option over a tt V6.

Some of the product decisions goes beyond 'engineering'. In this 'transition era' where electric cars and self driving cars dominate the news, 'Corporate' will be compelled to show they are 'green' too.

I buy new and keep cars a long time so I've got some time to let the dust settle before I replace my '15 LS460. Having owned two turbocharged cars in the past (both had replacements at least once) I will be watching the reliability closely. Does anybody know who makes the LS500 turbos?

In my experience working at Toyota, they would NOT have named it the LS 500 if they weren't going to offer it with the 5.0L. Because the 5.0L exists ... if they weren't going to implement it in the vehicle, they would have named the vehicle the LS 350, 470 (for the hp), or 390 for the torque, or 560 (taking a swipe at Merc). Something other than the coincidental nomenclature they have due to the existence of the 5.0L.
So, until that day, I'm taking a deep breath, relaxing, will go pop some popcorn, enjoy my 460, wait for the announcement ... and will catalyze 0133642 to put in his order for my future LS 500 once it's available (I like a dark red with a tan interior, and big ole chrome wheels).
And oh yeah, 0133642, don't buy the first model year, buy the 2nd model year with the 5.0L. Thanks!
PS - I haven't driven my 460 in weeks. Too much rain, Scamp tuning and truck duty going on.

Yeah, I did read that somewhere. And on the hybrid vehicles, I can understand the challenge. On a vehicle not offered as a hybrid, I don't know, but I'm hoping they stick to tradition where possible.

I like the sound of a turbo, both spooling and the associated sound through the exhaust. I'm betting that can be done. However, the sounds I'm used to hearing from a turbo might tend to quickly become non-Lexus appropriate. And certainly (IMO) would not hold the same "air of authority" that a V8 rumble can have. I like V6's, but their sound is a little more, "Fast & Furious" (to me) versus the sweet V8 tone our engines put out (with Exhaust Vents that is).
I just bought a (well used) G35 this past winter for my oldest son. It has a nice sounding V6. But I don't believe that sound would be nearly as authoritative as our V8. The G35 sounds good, but the 4.6L sound like, "the boss."
