I cannot lock my key fob or card key in the car. It won’t let me. It automatically unlocks the doors immediately.

Check your owner’s manual to be absolutely certain.

Anyone program keys and got an idea here ? So I picked up a USED KEY, matching IDs etc. Same key style I have with again, matching numbers. I tried to program it and of course it failed. So I found a service on eBay, shipped it out, they replaced the blank with unlocking (virgin) service. Shipped out the key, got them back, tried to do it today... followed some YouTube videos but, it still fails.

Boot up Techstream, Connect to car, it connects fine. Go Smart Lock, and then Program Key (I forget the exact term), Follow the wizard (car in IGN mode, 2 X start pushes with no foot on the break), Put both keys out of the car, bring back the "working key" into the car, when told, HOLD the key on the START button till a BEEP, remove "working key" from car, and bring in "key to program" and do the same thing, hold it up to the START button, hear a BEEP (also tried with 2x beep), then it says " Place key on Passengers Seat"

I place it on the passenger's seat, from there it will just count down the timer and error out, giving a few options including " a locked key"...

IS there anything with the Passengers Seat like a special place ? Seeing all the videos, once the key to be programmed is touched to the start button, it's ready to use. This is not the case ?

Ebay will protect me, if need but, before going any deeper, IS there any thing here I could be doing wrong ?

As far as i know used keys can only be added if you deleted all your saved keys (lost all keys) . which requires a seed code for TIS . Or have a car locksmith clean or make it virgin like new then you can program it using techstream . maybe the key was not cleaned it properly . I have done the process on over 10 LS's never had a problem . By that i mean adding keys.

I got a used key, then I send it to someone on eBay that unlocks the keys (he said he is a locksmith and does tons of these). The seller claims the key was unlocked (and kind pushing it back me for doing something wrong). My car only has 1 key on it, I deleted the rest of them, as I only got 1 key with the car.

Based on what I said above, is there ANYTHING I am missing ? It should be pretty strait forward.

I have posted this process from both sides. Using a Pre- Programmed FOB , a Seede #, & TechStream with the help of an extremely talented and prepared fellow Forum Member (Thank you McKellyB!) and we then did it the easy way by insuring that we had “pre-cleaned” used FOB’s. I also had a Dealer Program a Cleaned & Wiped FOB for a reasonable price in 2019.

Believe me, you want to start this process Dead Certain , the FOB is not currently assigned & Programmed,
