Default Replacement cost of Hybrid battery for LS 600hl?

I have a 2008 LS 600hl, Neiman Marcu launch edition, with 115,000 miles.
I am debating whether to keep it or sell it.
The biggest issue would be, if the Hybrid battery fails.
Has anyone experience this?
My local lexus dealer said that he never had to replace a Hybrid battery in a 600hl. But then, since mine is the launch edition, it would be the oldest of the 600HLs.
Just wondering - what would the cost be?
Are there any after market solutions?
The car rides as if it were brand new. I am hesitant to sell it.

I think I've heard of 2 battery failures, do a search thread on this forum and you'l see them. CJITTY went through one.

Well, unless the dealer/Lexus would kick in something towards the replacement, I don't think its something I would have them do. There are plenty of Toyota/Lexus battery refurbishers out there. Just make sure they replace ALL the cells and not just the bad ones. I think it runs $2500-$3000 (probably twice that at the dealer).

$7-8k and i don't recall seeing any aftermarket solutions for the 600. Question to ask yourself is : are you willing to make this investment to enjoy this rare car for another 8-9 years. Other option is trading it in for 10-15% of what you paid...

It was $6k for me..but I complained to corporate and ended up paying $1500..Lexus covered the other 75%. My beef was my battery failed literally 8 years to the day of warranty expiring and had to argue to get it covered. Got it fixed..kept car another month and got rid of it. I now have a 2012 460L and couldn't be happier. 600 checked off my list but never again..if I ever did buy another hybrid, once warranty is up it's gone..no aftermarket options for 600 hybrid repairs like Prius and other common hybrids

The price you pay for being a bleeding edge eco tourist.

Next time think ahead.

More than 8 years ahead!

I am wondering whether anyone has used this type of service at these prices.. $3000 is not too bad.. like replacing transmission after 10 years..

You might want to check out www.priuschat.com. I know there are places around the country that remanufactures Toyota hybrid batteries and that members there have used them, would be worth finding those places and asking them if they could do the packs on the LS.

Yes, that's where most of the knowledge is but I've noticed a lot of the Prius battery places don't do the LS600h. It takes a bit of hunting/Googling, but they're out there. I think the main consideration is that the battery is probably NOT going to crap out. I would gamble on that over control arms, brake actuators, etc, etc.

I talked to the service tech at local lexus dealership. He said he had never changed control arms for a 600hl.
I have a 2010 460l, which needed control arms replaced.
What's a brake actuator's repair cost? I didn't realize that it was a problem part.

~$3k parts and labor. It was replaced on my previous 600 because of clicking and shudder

Its possible that the control arm material is different on the heavier 600h and that they are less susceptible to wear. Also, I would imagine it has regenerative braking so the braking system could be different, too. If it is the same actuator as the LS, they are about $2500. You may be in luck - the 600h may have fewer problems than the 460!

The control arms are the same on the 600hl, the reason he's never changed them is that the 600hl is so rare. If they're an issue on the 460, they're an issue on the 600hl.

Brake actuator may not be because of the 600hl's regenerative brakes. Speculation on my pet there though.

I hope you are correct. I have a 2010 ls460L, for which the control arms were just replaced @90k miles - fortunately under CPO warranty. The rattle/noise made when they fail, is unmistakable. So, I would know easily, if and when they fail.
My friend has a 2007 ls 460, which needs control arm replacement.
Fortunately, no noise yet, from my ls 600hl. Hopefully, you are correct that they might be different. I could double check with the dealer, later.

The 600 is very much included in the control arm TSIB.

On the hybrid battery front, beyond the rarity of the 600, which arguably presents aftermarket players with less of an incentive to come up with a solution, a theme I've read in multiple places over time is that the battery back is much harder to service. For starters, it appears that cells are riveted on as opposed to screwed on like on the Prius packs: not impossible to handle, of course, just more complicated to disassemble.
