Jaguar XF-R - Talk me out of it!
omg.....I cam across a 2013 Jaguar XF-R for 40 grand Canadian (about 30 US). 510 hp Supercharged V8. I know that I should worry about reliability. The car is so dang sexy. Haven't driven it yet, but might in the coming days.

I'm kind of getting the itch to get a new car. Retiring next year and might be last chance to splurge.
TALK ME OUT OF IT!! Lol

Sexy, sporty and a very clean Jaguar. Give it a test drive and splurge on a early retirement present if you are really impressed. Life is short so go for the gusto.

Sigh.....Yes, it's sexy as heck. As much as I've always lectured against any one getting an extended warranty, this is one car I would get a warranty on.

Remember your BMW days? Multiply it by ten. That help?
Beautiful car though. It would suck to lose one of the biggest contributors around here, but I guess we're all going to leave sooner or later. Personally I'd keep the LS and buy a "fun/weekend car". Think about it, you're retiring...you'll have time to enjoy a weekend car any day of the week. Did I mention I'm not good at convincing people to do things?? Lol.

Its a sharp one, but you've been lured in by sexy before lol. It will be nowhere near as reliable as your Lexus, and it will be much harder for you to work on it DIY. Sure you have a warranty, but will you be happy having a bunch of stuff go wrong that you can't repair and you have to deal with the dealer to repair? The issue with Jaguar/Land Rover is all the electronic gremlins. Forget being able to find cheap aftermarket parts for anything. Jaguar's navigation and infotainment is HORRIBLE. Whats in your LS is more modern honestly. You're likely to have all the same sorts of issues you had wth your 7 Series.
An entirely different car, and will be an entirely different ownership experience for you. If you want something sportier and different, have you thought about a 4th gen GS? You can get a nice one for that money, retains the Lexus reliability, DIY ability and yet is a lot more dynamic and fun to drive.

Chris this is not the car for you. I've read enough of your posts to know this would be a mistake for you. It has nothing to do with it being a Jag. Heck, my wife has a 2001 S-Type with 168,000 trouble free miles. I just don't think this type of car suits you. Now I could see you in a XJ (I could see myself in one some day).
I would sit tight for now and at least wait until you retire. Then you'll have more time to think!

There's truth to that. It's very hard to go from the flagship class back down below, trust me I've done it. You've had two flagship sedans now, the XF would be fun for a while but you would start to get bugged by things.

Only because you asked us to talk you out of it : At $45k, I think that you can do better. Sure that engine is a beast, but I found the XF to be tight inside and, as you already know, they tend to have recurring electrical problems that likely would ruin your ownership experience. But if reliability must be damned and a monster V8 must be had, I'd rather have a supercharged XJL or a 2013+ Grand Cherokee SRT8 or, cheaper still, an SS. At least there's some room inside to stretch out!

At 40k+tax I think you will regret it , they drop very fast in value every year and aren't really all that well built from what I see on the Jag forums . (been a member for a year or so)
The only Jag I would consider ( and I have) would be the 07-09 XK-R's , they are a 420HP supercharged coupe and they are pretty rock solid. They used the same V8 for over a decade and by the time the 07 XKR came out they had it bulletproofed.
They are beautiful as well and would make more sense to get since you already have a 4 door sedan.
