too bad they don’t make anything interesting that fits our cars, I think it’s possible to retrofit shocks to our cars you just need a shop that knows what ifs doing.

1. there is no rubber boot that protects the whole strut, so you get rust issues dirt dust etc
2. this strut depends too much on rubber, the strut mount part of the strut is not a mechanical part that’s covered with rubber and then pressed together like the same strut mounts that go in these same cars... nope they are connected to the struts by rubber, theres no mechanical connection where something is resting on a lip or crop or anything like that it’s a pieces of rubber that’s held in place by the crimping of sone other metal part so when the rubber at the edge of said cr crump dries out and fails, there will be nothing holding your strut in place , I shall let you think about that for a bit , I have not seen another strut any strut designed like that.
3. the stiffening or slackening of the strut is a good feature to have, on sone Toyota or Lexus SUV’s thar connection is on the side it’s sealed and great way to do it . On our systems the metal bar of the strut is hollow and in this hollow there’s a tiny pin that the actuator manipulates, so thing about it if you designed the actuator external of the strut you now have to manipulate something mechanical in or on the strut that adjusts the inner workings of said strut, to facilitate that access you cannot truly seal away the insides effectively and in this case I’m pretty sure there’s a rubber valve of sone sort which however little is exposed to engine temperatures and air etc
so although I like the idea of front air suspension I do not think I can ever use this Lexus design, it would either fail too quickly without unconventional intervention like rubber conditioning and etc at the very least.
and no gas a just is just the name of the oem struts that go on our cars that do not have air suspension

Just for reference for anyone looking to do this....
yes you need struts, top mounts, lower insulators and of course springs
disconnect the hoses but dont remove ANY electronics at all and you will get no warning lights
I swapped my fronts to OEM springs and it pairs perfectly wth the rear air struts
So if your fronts are going bad theres no rush to replace the rears in my opinion

I have to agree with you, I love my air ride as well but it depends where I am driving
I have a base 2010 non air new OEM KYBs and an 08 LS460L with Air
The variable air ride is very stiff on surface streets but hums at 85 mpg like driving on cusions on freeway but the coil overs are a smoother ride on surface streets.

My air ride works for all surfaces (I drive in MA and NH, where roads vary dramatically is quality), I just need to toggle the suspension stiffness switch to a proper position setting. I use "Comfort" setting up to 40mph, "Normal" - 40-60mph, and "Sport" - 60+mph.

I like your solution. replace only front 2. can you share
1. was it done by lexus?
2. KYB is the OEM, right? they supply everything.
3. any chance you have the list of part numbers.
4. what was the total cost out the door, if you don't mind.
i have a 2007 LS460L that got diagnosed with left strut leaking air. appreciate the help.
