Default 2010 LS460AWD 130K with A/S - feels bouncy

Hi CL members,

On my way in to work today on the highway the car felt more bouncy than it should be. Is this THE SIGN of the struts going bad? Could it be something else?
What are my options as far fixing the issue ? new struts are 1k a pop

Thanks!

When you put the suspension in sport mode does it firm up and become less bouncy?

Slightly.... yes.
I also found that if I pull over and raise the height and then put it back to normal the car drives fine until I play with the sport and comfort setting and then it becomes bouncy again.

I came from a BMW 335i to the LS... when i first drove the car on the highway in "normal" mode i thought there was something wrong with the suspension. It felt like the front wheels were almost going in different directions and the body was nearly uncontrollable. Over the last 3 months i've grown very accustom to the way the car rides.

Since i'm usually driving over 80 mph on the highway, which here in NJ don't tend to be very flat, I put the car in sport mode on the highways. I find it eliminates the secondary motion of the other two modes.

The air suspension sort of sucks .....I prefer the tight firm ride of the "sport" setting but it does make it feel rough when you encounter any road imperfections

I'm gutting my entire air suspension for coilovers , I cant see it being any worse , in fact I'm hoping its a lot better.

Keep us posted. I'd like to know how the ride is compared to the factory air suspension.

+1, I've thought about doing this myself. It's much too floaty for my tastes

So I got around to mess with the suspension today. The front shocks were VERY responsive to the top adjustments..... The rear struts not so much.
The vehicle responds well to the height function and goes up and down as it should.
The actuators in the back are responsive , little movements during test drive while disconnected confirmed it.

Im going to take it on the hightway and see how it does... my problem with going coils is that im afraid a future potential buyer would not be so understanding of the situation....

So I think I am going to do a conversion and remove the rear air struts.... How can I find out which parts are comparable with my vehicle?

These are my current part numbers
REAR RIGHT 48080-50270
REAR LEFT 48090-50270

Thank you!

Replacing the rear adjustable shocks with new straight gas shocks and leaving the old (130,000 miles) adjustable front shocks might give you some very weird handling characteristics.

Lift the front end of the car remove front wheels grab air shocks if they move left or right easly you might have detach ring from the airbag on shock.if that's the case it is very dangerous driving the car I replaced mine for $2100 installation is a breeze
