Well, look on the bright side - most places would have stiffed you for a complete transmission rebuild!

Drain and fill is the safest bet. I have heard of too many issue with those flushes, I am surprised they still do flushes considering how many problems they have caused. The dealership should have paid for the leak they caused, especially if they did not warn you that a flush can cause several problems.

In the Dealers defense, I did tell them to do the flush, so they were just following my request. What's concerning is the condition of the fluid and the sediment they observed from the flush. As discussed here, I will only be doing the drain and refill from now on. ...maybe at 50k intervals.

2nd Update: After a few weeks, the transmission developed some jerkiness and had an episode where it started slipping on a hill! Wifey pulled to shoulder and moved shifter to neutral to drive a few times and it seemed to go away. Took it back to Toyota Dealer who couldn't reproduce issue after several attempts. I insisted something was up and asked them about when they pulled the pan. Apparently, when the pan was pulled, the Technician did clean what was exposed but also "cleaned" the transmission filter and re-installed. They insisted this was a metal strainer with no filter element. I sent them a pic of the part with yellow element clearly visible and they agreed under good will to replace. My theory is that the filter is partially clogged inhibiting flow thus causing the tranny slip/

Best not to touch this tranny other than drain/re-fill...sheesh what a pain!

Drain and fill is what my dealer does and what is recommended by Toyota and Lexus. A drain and fill should be enough to replenish the additives - especially when done every 50-60k miles or so.

I think part of the problem with these flushes is that they introduce so much new fluid and that fluid has detergents in it that perhaps do a little too much cleaning...kind of shocking the system and freeing up stuff. I think the drain and fills are a better gradual approach. But I don't think places are adding those cleaning additives any longer to their flushes, that's when people really were having problems.

And I'd also question if they overfilled your transmission the first time because I find it strange that all of the sudden that seal started leaking.
