Congrats on your LS 460. I have a '10 LS that isn't AWD. Had my amp and LR air shock replaced. A problem with the trunk opening and self closing and all were fixed under warranty. No other problems.

Gratz on the new 460. I have the 08 and so far my air puts out plenty of cold! I usually turn it off auto and run it on low it puts out so well. If you haven't already, take a look on the Lexus Drivers site and pop in your Vin. then you'll see what's been done. Otherwise, there are always going to be things that happen. But for the most part ou should enjoy an incredible riding vehicle! Enjoy.

Congrats on the new car and good luck with it.

As swfla stated, definitely take a look at the FAQ/DIY sticky at the top of this forum.

You've come to the right place. A little research here and you'll find out all of the negatives to the LS460. Also being a DIY type don't get scared of the outragious dealer prices you see on here. A prime example is the waterpump replacement. DIY is around $200 and a couple of hours of your time. Dealer cost is about a grand more than doing it yourself.

Ditto: do as many of the repairs yourself.

Or if you're not a DIY'er, find a good local mechanic.

I just got mine a few months ago. Only problems I see is wind noise on the driver side. But the car runs smooth and strong.

Any known issues with the factory air on the 460s?

Also, engine wise, I was pretty involved in all my cars' maintenance, and am mechanically proefficient. Just wondering if there are any common issues people run into with these 460s
Not urgent, but if you could post some stuff I'd appreciate it.
Thanks

I also have an 09 with AWD. There is a TSB for the actuator on the air struts. I have replaced 3 of my 4 through my warranty, which paid for the warranty two fold. Also, the control arm bushings are known to crack prematurely. There is a TSB for that too. Bushings aren't expensive but if you go with Lexus OEM replacement parts you have to buy the whole control arm because they don't sell the bushings separately. You can find aftermarket control arms and bushing on Ebay for a fraction of the OEM costs. And if you do it yourself then you'd save even more money.

Hope this helps.

Default Common problems

Hi all.
I am considering the purchase of a 2008 LS. After conducting research I've noticed that there is a common issue around an odd vibration problem at certain rpm and around control arm bushing's with these cars. I've also noticed that there is a common issue around air suspension issues. I based my conclusion around threads that seem to pop up constantly.

Are these problems real or are they inflated by forum activity? I would like to enjoy Lexus reliabikity and I was surprised to find out that these issues exist.

Thanks

I think you hit on the common problems...... YES, They are real problems (not inflated) and this is the place to find out about common problems or fixes so you know what you are getting into. The LS is a very reliable car that will last many miles BUT just like anything else there are common problems. I am sure if you look at other (auto brand) forums you will see common problems on their models too.

This forum represent a small percentage of LS owners. It's very helpful and informative for many members. These issues do exist but I don't believe its a common occurrences with the 460. Air suspension parts are known to fail in all makes of vehicles. Lexus is reliable but all auto maker have faults.

I completely agree that all brands of their issues.

The purpose of my thread was to understand and set expectations.

Correct me if I'm wrong:
1. The LS 460 can be found without the air suspension?
2. The LS 460 can have your suspension removed and replaced with traditional suspension?
3. The vibration issue that seems to be popping up as related to tires and not to the driveline?

Also, are these cars engaging to drive? Can you have some fun with them around twisty roads?

Thanks
