Exclamation Playing DVD Movies on Navi (2013+)

Please forgive me for the (possible obvious) questions, but I'm trying to understand if the 2013+ LS460 can play DVDs and/or videos on the navigation screen.

Would it play DVD by default, or is there an aftermarket module which would need to be purchased?

If it does play by default, is there an override to allow playing DVDs or video media while driving (safety implications not withstanding).

Thank you

I believe as long as the model has the Mark Levinson system, it will be capable of playing DVD's while stationary. That capability is lost when the vehicle is in motion (as I'm sure you're aware).
The module you would be interested in is by Prestigious Society which will enable Nav bypass as well as DVD play while car is in motion.

Thanks for the input.

I did not realize there would be a difference in the ability to play DVDs between Mark Levinson systems and the standard systems on the 2013+ LS460.

I appreciate the input.

You know what, let me say that I'm not sure regarding that aspect of the audio/video system.
They actually may both be capable.
I may be confusing my information with other, older Lexus models (GS and IS).
Other will answer I'm sure.
My apologies for possibly being misleading.
But indeed the PS module will grant bypass access.

no worries at all, CRowe14.

I plan to acquire an 2013+ model in the near future, so I'll be able to test for sure... but just getting a feel for it now.

Realistically, it would probably just be a super cool feature to show off to friends... more so than watch while parked (who has time for that anyway LOL).

i think for 2013+ it's dvd drive by default and it will play dvd

my gs has no ML and it plays dvd video just fine

07-12 for sure you need ML otherwise you don't even have dvd changer

You can play DVD's on a non ML system. ML will just give you 7.1 Reference Surround, etc..

As stated by Crowe, you'll want the PS module to watch DVD's on the move. It's a great piece of kit for more than just watching DVD's, such as using your NAV, calender, dial numbers through Bluetooth and anything else on your screen while on the move.

I appreciate the input, RF.

I will definitely look into the PS module for 2013+ models. It sounds like a good investment.

If anyone has any links or additional information on the PS module, including it's applicability to 2013+, please chime in.

Thank you

Vaistech, a CL sponsor offers a similar product. See http://www.vaistech.com/site/ulm.php

Thanks Tom57.

It looks like I would be looking at the following unit for the 2013 LS460:

ULM-71
Navigation and DVD/Video Unlock module for 7th Generation Lexus Navigation System.
$ 174.99

I'll have to figure out the advantages of the Vais unit versus the the Prestigious Society product.

Looks like I have some serious research to do.

Thank you!

My LS is only a 2011, but it have the Viastech module. It works very good. I live only 10 minutes from their office so I stopped by and purchased mine. Install was very simple. Great for watching movies on road trips.

You're welcome. VaisTech typically has a holiday sale too, if you can wait a few weeks.

Thank you, I'll have to look for the sale for the holidays.

I'm still shopping for the right LS, so I have time on my hands to choose the right product.

BeatSonic had a similar product on group sale last month. Maybe they still offer the same discount. Bought mine but still haven't install it yet. Waiting for a pair of headrests to get here so I can do it altogether.

There's a lot of threads about the differences between the PS and Beatsonic. Most went with the PS for a few reasons, but the main one being the switch that comes with the Beatsonic. Lets just say it ain't pretty. However, it is cheaper. I also seem to recall that it doesn't come with instructions or support.
