Default Head cover and fuel pump gaskets - leaking oil

2008 LS460L, 223,000 miles.
Just got it back from the shop. It's been using a lot of oil. Lexus dealer says both high pressure fuel pumps and both valve covers are leaking 'severely'. Of course, they wanted to sell us another car.
We did not do a compression test on the cylinders.
Anyone have an opinion on whether it's worth fixing - replacing these gaskets?
If it is, should I replace the fuel pumps too?

I looked up a how-to on replacing a high pressure fuel pump and it looks pretty easy. I could do it myself if the dealer cost is prohibitive. But is it worth it for an engine with so many miles? Maybe we should sell the car.

Sorry. The title should read Valve cover, not Head cover. Oops. Can't edit title.

Yow!
I looked up high pressure fuel pumps and they are over a thousand dollars each!
WTF?

So I'm back to just asking about replacing the gaskets only.
But how long do these fuel pumps last?

Yeah, at a grand each from the dealer just do the gaskets only. Replacing the pumps themselves is not really preventive maintenance. Run them till you get ride of her or they totally fail.

High pressure fuel pumps are very expensive, actually I'm surprised Lexus isn't charging double that, seeing as how they charge double for everything else.

I'd do the pump and valve cover gaskets, why not if the car is running good? What's it going to cost you if you do it yourself? $150? And I know some around here have had them replaced for under a grand...if you had a timing belt motor you'd have spent $2,500 on timing belts by now. If the overall condition of the car is good, why not?
