Default Current 2005 LS430 owner shopping for 2013 LS460

Howdy Lexus owners!!

I found an LS460 2013 pearl/tan 25k miles asking 42K hoping to get around 35-38K max Texas car. I currently drive a 2005 LS430 with 150K miles. Alternator and O2 sensor is the only unexpected repairs. My car runs great but had it since 2007 and was thinking to upgrade to 2013 LS 460. I do have a Tesla model 3 on order. Expect delivery 3Q 2017. I have been itching to get a 2013 with newer body style and bells and whistles. The car went into service in Nov 2013 so it's almost a 2014. If I have the VIN is there a website that tells me what package it has? The dealer does not know the details of the car but looks to be very clean. Suggestions? Opinions to those whom own a 2013+ LS460?
I can tell you I LOVE MY LS430 and having an anxiety to part with it

YOUR OPNIONS GREATLY MATTER!

My 2014 was built in Nov 2013, so I think your car would be considered a 2014. In that case, there will be a few thousand $ premium compared to a 2013, so if you can get the dealer to come down to the high 30s from 42K, that would be an awesome deal.

The Lexus site will allow you to register and download the vehicle's service history as long as it was serviced at Lexus or Toyota dealerships or was manually entered by the previous owners. You will have to contact a Lexus dealer and ask if they can print out the complete package listing for your vehicle's VIN. I have researched 100s of 2013+ LS460s and can give you a good idea of the packages if you can post several interior photos of this vehicle or links to them at the selling website.

When looking at 460's that new, the chances are better than average that all service records will be in order as most if not all will still be under the 4year/50k original warranty and almost all will be under the 6 year/70,000 warranty.

With especially the main warranty, having the oil changes done within Lexus's window is essential. Not to mention, we are talking about a $70,000 plus car so most owners are not going to be getting their hands dirty and or going to an indy to save a few bucks.

I would be far more concerned about making sure that the cars under consideration have no accident history. And just to be safe, I would of course register with Lexus to run the VINs to see the service history. Due diligence if you would.

With all this being said, when spending that much money, I would probably still have a PPI preformed. Ideally at a different Lexus dealer than the one that has a financial interest in selling it to you. They make far more on the used and L Certified cars than they do off of the brand new ones. Used cars and the service dept keep dealers in business.

Thanks for your reply the car is at a Toyota dealer. Car was traded in but what surprising it had two owners the last owner had it for 3 months?!?!

So I emailed Lexus to get history of options installed. Waiting on reply.

I was wondering if you had a list of installed options and equipment that my 2013 LS460 came from the factory with, here is my VIN:
JTHBL5EF9D5124270

Your assistance is greatly appreciated.
Thanks

2 owners in 3 months is cause for concern. I would pour over the service records and I would also call your Lexus dealer (as they are not selling the car) and have them perform a PPI and prior provide the VIN to a service advisor as they have far more detailed notes on the cars than what the Lexus Drivers website has.

Sorry two owners total
1 owner Nov 2013 to June 2016 then auto auction then 2 owner July to Nov 2016 traded it in at a Toyota dealer. Kinda fishy for second owner to keep it 3 months only

I guess I should take it for a full inspection at the Lexus dealer prior to purchase.

The fact it went to auction as opposed to being L Certified is a minor red flag to me. Service records look just fine as you would expect considering the consequences if you don't follow the service requirements.
Also, the "Electrical System Checked" is of minor concern.
I personally think when talking about a 3 year old car, I would go 1 owner or bust.

bluefranky time is on your side; it is the end of the year so they would want to sell something before Saturday. Plus, this car has been on their lot since at least Oct 29th (dealers usually keep used inventory for 60 days before they sell it at an auction or move it). Make them an offer, then if they don't take it, walk away, that is your biggest power as a buyer right now. With 25k miles, I honestly don't think there is anything to worry about because it is still under the 4yr/50k warranty, any issues you discover after would be rectified by Lexus. Pull up the service records on the Lexus Owners site by typing in the VIN there to see what the "electrical system checked" thing and other maintenance history was, but I would not be afraid of this vehicle. Keep in mind the LS460 is the flagship vehicle, just like your 05 LS430, and they are overengineered/overbuilt.

Greetings. My concern from hands on experience, is Carfax isn't the end all be all. In fact, it's very easy to hide problems from both Carfax and Lexus. If a car has been sold that quickly, I suspect something fishy. I traded my 05 for an 08 with a clean Carfax. Found out something had happened to the passenger side rear panel. I had it repaired and it looks just fine. It's drives great and is certainly every bit as smooth as can be. Just make sure you have the car inspected by a trusting 3rd party mechanic.

Ok will go test drive the car and have the Lexus dealer inspect the car. I may just stick to my 2005 LS430. It has 150K miles and been using Mobil 1 on it. Love the car but was hoping to get a newer more current car. I figured the 2013 with updated grill and dash looks nice!

I do have a tesla model 3 on order. I ordered it the first week it came out. So in a delima what to do.

I do know by the time the Tesla is here I need to sell my LS430 or cancel the order and get LS460 2013+. I have not driven the LS460 and expect it to drive the same or better then my LS430

Drive the 13 LS460, I think you'll be pleased especially coming off the 05 LS430. The updated interior/electronics is a refreshing/much needed upgrade and for (I assume) $40k, it is a lot of car for that money. You could buy a 17 ES350 for that $$ and get a lot more car in the LS460. Assuming you're in Houston, there is a 13 LS460 F-Sport at Planet Ford (and 1 more somewhere) both decent mileage under $40k that are worthy of a look.
