2017 Genesis G90, who's buying it?

Saying you have a re-badged Toyota in 1990 is a compliment. The Cressida was a very high end car in the 80's. If business was good you owned either a BMW 5 or 7 series, a Cressida or a Maxima...soon came the Legend and the fun begins. At every point in Hyundai's timeline their is no "car to have". They are associated with producing low cost units of very weak build quality and absolutely no resale value. Now how you compare that to a re-badged Cressida is a mystery. I'd take a brand new 1987 Cressida over a Kia Optima with the latest tech.
Take a look at these 1980's leather seats in a Toyota that are superior to the seats in a LS on the dealers lot for 80K today

Roadfrog...wrong again! Those are factory seats and they're better than your LS460 seats lol.
Same seats in velour:

Believe me, when people said "your Lexus is just a fancy Toyota" it was not meant as a compliment lol
The Cressida was a very nice car, two of my uncles had them, one an 80s version like that and another a 1990 one which was the newer style. Hyundai is also maki great cars today.
Not a tufted leather guy though.

All you guys talked about genesis make me wonder how does Hyundai stand comparing with Japanese auto. So today I want to drive test family sedans from Hyundai, Toyota, Honda, Nissan in 2 hours. I was only able to test new sonata, Camry in 2 hours.
In in terms of driving, they are close. Camry's steering is still loose and hallow, it pick up quiet a lot road noise underneath, Sonata is little quieter underneath, but feel less powerful than camry(both 4 cylinders).
Now in in terms of interior control panel design, It is very ugly inside Camry. Feels like they are going backwards and start to learning control panel design from GM. I think who ever come up with that design specially around LCD display should get his *** whipped. Sonata's design style looks like Camry's twin brother. Not sure who copy's who
for the price they asking for, I don't like either of them

Its all about style. Tufted, gathered leather is just not in style, taut smoother leather is whats in style today. Even a Rolls Royce has smooth, un tufted, un gathered leather today:
Years ago gathered leather was what you saw, similar to what you see say on your LS430's door panels & seats:

Can’t test a Genesis in my province in Canada. So I went to test Hyundai Sonata to see how it comparing with other family sedan like Accord, Camry and Altima. To be fair, all 4 test car are 4 cylinders.
Camry still has that hollowing steering after all those years, quite hesitation in acceleration when hitting 45mph, quite bit of road noise from bottom and ugly control panel design.
Altima give the smoothest ride over the same bumpy road with cracks and potholes among those 4 family sedans. It also easily beats the 2014 Porsche Cayenne S, 2013 Range Rover Sports HSE, 2010 Lexus GX 460 I test this weekend (maybe because those Luxury SUVs I tested are used ones). The CQV transmission is not very smooth and I can feel some quite engine vibration from the gas paddle. Good acceleration.
Sonata has the same ugly control panel design like Camry, quite hesitation in acceleration when hitting 45mph.
Accord has good acceleration and steering, control panel looks better than other 3, suspension feels a little bit flat when passing cracks and potholes.
Overall, I like Accord the best among those 4 family sedans. Its whole package and driving experience is just better than others.

My favorite family sedan personally is the Mazda 6. IMHO Mazda has the most premium feel when it comes to their interiors and how their cars drive out on the road.

Tufting or quilting can add 30-50% more to the cost of the product. It is a premium embellishment. Tufts and quilts require more material and skill to execute. The same holds true in any furnishing: quilts and tufts cost more so the budget is out the window.

As an aside, I don't care for the look of those seats, but I bet they are real comfortable.
