Default 2010 Lexus LS 460 v. 2012 Mercedes E350

I have owned 2 Mercedes E series. Currently considering buying a 2012 Mercedes 30k or a 2010 Lexus LS 460 with 40 k miles. What would you buy? Thank you for your advice.

I would go with LS for two reasons. First, the reliability and secondly, the other option is E series, not S. To me LS is lot better than E class.

The MB E series may suit you better since you're considering buying your 3rd. The E class is sporty plus it drives and handles better. The E class is small and isn't nearly as roomy and comfortable as the LS. So if you like comfort, quietness, reliability and driving a big full size sedan, then the LS would be a great buy.

I currently have a 2013 E350 sport, and I just test drove two LS460 today. They were 2007 and 2012.

So here are couple of things I have noticed.

1. E350 is more agile and sport tuned, while LS460 drives more like a boat with softer suspensions. They do 0-60 and quarter mile in about the same time length. So basically if you want more fun driving, definitely E350, but LS460 gotta be very nice if you usually have a few passengers riding with you.

2. Mark Levison is somewhat on par with the Harmen Kardon on E350, but I still prefer whats on my E350 so far. It could be a preference thing of maybe I am just too used to listening to the later one.

It's not in the same class. I'd compare it to a GS 350.

I actually was very close to buying a 2014 E350 until I read about the transmission issue. I didn't want to go through that so I bought a 13 LS 460 instead.

I can only comment on German ownership, coming from several BMW's. The Lexus is far and away better when comparing reliability.

Also, as stated, the cars are completely different in class, and would be like comparing the LS to the GS or ES.

If you've had 2 MB, why are you considering leaving the brand?

E Class = GS
S Class = LS
Different classes

That said, I'd get an LS. The E Class rear leg room is worse than a Honda Accord's. Go big or go home.

I have the LS sport. But I think you got it right. I also don't think the GS is close to the E350 at least in looks.

I stick with Lexus just for the reliability and less headaches.
But the LS is one of the most boring cars to drive.
Also if most of the time you are driving with more than 2 passengers go with the LS if not then I would definitely go with the E350 if you can deal with more maintenance.

The LS and E are about 1 second different 0 to 60. And that disparity is worse with luggage and passengers.

I recently went from a 2010 MB S550 to the 2013 LS460. Primary reason was the S was coming out of the CPO I purchased it with and was getting expensive. I would agree with other folks here, which is the LS is much closer to the S class than the E class. There is a significant interior room difference so two different cars really. Depends on what you need. I personally needed the extra room (3 kids) so LS was the only Lexus option for me. I've owned it about 3 months, and love it (boring or not).

One thing that makes it boring is: I don't have anything to discuss with my MB mechanic. He asks about the car, I say it's fine...and then we just exchange shrugs. Me-> Him->
