2013 LS 460 - Tap power off the rearview mirror?

Has anyone here tapped the power off the rearview mirror?

I bought the BlendMount for my Escort 9500ix and wanted to tap the power off the rearview mirror for convenience.

Any help would be appreciated! Thanks.

If you want to tap power from the sliding roof drive connector instead you can try it this way:

As Bustarice outlined above. That's how I did mine.

What is the length of the cord that you used? And which cord did you buy? My radar sits right below the rearview mirror.

Thanks.

It is a very very short distance. The kit I used was for dashcam using mini-usb but it depends what your unit requires. It was 10-ft but I didn't even use more than a foot.

For you you might need something like this:

They all pretty much work similar just the end connectors may differ and some of different looking fuses.

^Thank you for your help.

I bought a 12" mirrortap cord off eBay, but it was about 6" too short. So I extended another 6".

@VIPanda460 Thanks so much! I am trying to get my mirror mounted detector powered up without the ugly curly cord cigarette lighter thing. Can anyone show me how to remove the roof panel to access this connector? I see two screws behind the eyeglasses bin, but other than that, I got nothing. I hate pulling on trim not knowing what's up.

@Seejay

I recently removed it again for something else so it's fresh in my head.

Literally after the 2 screws in the sunglasses holder you have to finesse it pulling around that console edges and it'll pop right out. Just be easy and it'll come loose eventually. I didn't use any tools.

I used a phone cord and a couple of these.

I'm curious as to how you guys doing the power tap at the mirror are handling the mute button for the detector. Are you using the one on the detector itself? I tapped power in my console and ran the wire under the dash and up the A-pillar for mine so that the remote mute button was beside the driver's seat. I also ran the power wire for my dash cam to the passenger side while I had it all apart.

Yes, just mute it on the detector. But I like the way you did yours. It’s more convenient that way.

Is your radar mounted by the headliner? I mounted mine under the rear view mirror so it’s not too bad when muting it.

DedBirdDog 11-09-18 01:20 PM

It is under the headliner. The cable run didn't quite give me enough lead to go all the way down to the mirror from the console and going this route allowed me to hide the cord better. The detector is also better hidden from prying eyes in this location as well.

With the detector mounted below the rearview mirror (blendmount), and tapping the power from the connector as shown by VIPanda460, a 20" mirror-tap cable fits perfectly on a 2012 LS460 and there is no excess.
