Well, the good news is it's easy to access. It's located under the engine. You have to remove the plastic panel underneath the car and it's basically, "right there". There's a harness attached to it and one bolt holding it in place. Labor is quoted as less than an hour and Lexus charges about 100 bucks for the part. I see them selling on Ebay for 22 bucks free shipping. Here's a pic of it and the repair procedure:

Awesome post roadfrog, and if Lexus gets around $100 for the part and eBay prices are $22...then perhaps at a parts store they are somewhere around $50...that will be a quicker solutions if the guy is stuck and needs the car.

True....50 bucks would be worth getting on the road sooner. I forgot he's stranded. Even Lexus' 100 dollars is not breaking the bank.

Yeah $100 doesn't seem bad for a sensor like that...kind of surprising when they're charging $350 bucks for a single control arm.

This is worth looking at. Weak batteries cause many strange electrical gremlins. If it's an old battery, it could cause these kind of problems even though it tests fine.

Is it fully charged? I mean fully, because if it's even slightly weak...slightly drained...it won't start.

Will it start with booster cables? Was something left on to drain the battery? If you insist that it's not the battery, then that only leaves a bad starter or a bad ground/electrical connection. I'm with the others here though....bad or drained battery.
