Do you leave your "AC" on even in the winter/heat mode?
Just curious, but I know the AC acts like a dehumidifier as well, but do you leave your AC on even if you set the temp to warm?
For some reason, I'll turn it off manually, check a few hours later and it's back on! I guess the auto climate concierge turns it back on, even though I have it set to 79?
In any case, just curious if anyone else manually turns it off during the winter?

I shut mine off most the time. I do check periodically to see if it's back on - I find it comes back on in certain conditions. I turn it on once in a while to make sure the pag oil circulates through the AC system/compressor, etc.

No I don't want to waste gas or replace an a/c compressor. Using the a/c when you don't need it is wrong in my eyes. Imagine running your house a/c compressor all year long for no reason.

I could be mistaken, but I believe it is recommended because it has something to do with the humidity in the car. I could have sworn I read that Lexus recommended it, but then again I did not stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night..

Yeah, the owner's manual states that the AC on/off button, in addition to turning on/off the AC compressor to cool, is also how humidity is controlled.
It says, precisely:
"Cooling and dehumidification function on/off"
What gets me though, is that I'll turn it off and have the main auto off on the front climate control and I'll check later and the AC is back on, lol!

I never hardly run my AC in my Ls400. its freezing cold and the only time I ever use it is in the rain. not a fan of dry electric heat so I pretty much always keep my windows down

Auto mode. Set it and forget it. I don't hear any stories of failing compressors, so I'm not worried about it. Not to mention that, compressors should at least be run periodically to allow for lubrication of the AC system.

I keep mine in the AUTO mode setting. Some manufacturers design the controls so that when you put the defroster on (in all 4 seasons) the setting cycles the condenser...... I had this on my 91 Cummins Dodge pick up. The AC works well for pulling out humidity during the winter months. There is no harm in cycling a AC compressor during any season.

Yes, you should run it at least every couple of weeks to keep the system lubricated.
Here in the Northwest it's usually humid and damp in the winter, so it's really useful for defogging. I just leave mine on auto mode and it's almost always on. My Forester is irritating because it doesn't turn on the compressor enough in auto mode when it's cold out.

Yeah, I'm just going to leave it in auto and not even pay attention that it's on or off as I can't get it to stay off anyways with much luck, even though it's below freezing and really doesn't feel humid.
