Hello,

I am a long-time Lexus owner, now finally hoping to purchase a higher mileage 2013 LS460 (currently drive an SC430).

I am wondering if anyone could share the Manheim auction report for the 2013 LS460.

If anyone has access to the MRR (Manheim Market Report), or recently sold numbers, please share with us.

I would certainly appreciate any assistance.

I am also wondering if there is any chance you could possibly also share the "recently sold" Manheim numbers for the 2013 LS460 (where it lists actual prices for vehicles sold recently). Hopefully I'm not asking for too much.

Jasone36, if you don't have a dearler's license you won't be able to buy at a Manheim auction.

I am aware that I cannot purchase at a dealer auction without a dealer's license.

The reason I'm looking for this information is to understand the market. I am a retail shopper, but it certainly helps to understand the holistic market, including the spread between wholesale and retail.

I have no problem paying a $5,000 - $7,000 premium (over wholesale) to the retail dealer for a $50,000 LS... but I wouldn't want to pay a $15,000 premium (over wholesale) for that same car.

I guess it's all about trying to be an educated consumer.

Any additional assistance would be much appreciated.

Actually - there are a lot of dealers, who will be happy to take you to Manheim for a fee ( about $500-$700) to buy a car. You also will have to pay auction fee about $400.

Manheim data is great for negotiations..especially if you know how much a dealer paid for your car at the auction lol

Looks like about $2,000 to get you dealer license, with all the fees it entails.

So it might be cheaper to get the license or to tag along with a dealer friend and pick one out.

Truer words have never been spoken (not that I've ever expected any less from you, CJITTY)! I remember seeing my now-very-own car as a line item on a list of a handful of Manheim sales.

Of course, then there was the whole discussion about what "reconditioning and maintenance" they did at Lexus and at what cost, but that's neither here, nor there.

The used car market is a jungle in terms of pricing... only MRR can help.

Quick examples, I've seen cars purchased by dealers at "trade in value" in the (very high) 20Ks (think $29,000), then turned around and "retailed" for the low 40Ks (think $42,000 - $43,000), with only as much as an oil change and "auto detail" done (maybe $200 total cost).

(the details have been anonymized to protect the guilty, but we are talking about official dealers... not the "all credit approved" and "we speak your language" shops you see by the side of the road in a gritty neighborhood like Jamaica NY)

That's nearly $14,000 of "slush money" in there.... or markup, as the term goes, on a used car.
