I know the model changed dramatically inside and out for 2013. I plan to buy a 2013 in the future and hope that the vendor has changed their materials source for that year. As I mentioned earlier, I went thru the cracking dashboard issue on my RX330. Would hate to go there again.

Searching the Internet brought up this link:

http://www.classaction.org/melting-dashboards-lawsuit

Some interesting observations:

* Versions of the Lexus letter sent to owners include models not mentioned in the class action lawsuit.

* Other makes/brands are referenced, such as Toyota, Nissan, Mazda, Subaru. The possible implications of this are interesting.

* Lexus issued at least one TSIB (TSB) for this issue, never mailed to owners, and done at or near the end of the basic warranty (in 2011, IIRC) for many of the affected owners. It might be worthwhile to search for this in LS TSB databases. Lexus would need to prove the accuracy and completeness of any VIN ranges they claim the problem is limited to.

I'm sure more detailed research than the limited search results I examined will reveal additional details.

I just got off the phone with Lexus Corporate (1-800- 25 LEXUS) spoke to Kim who was very interested and generally helpful, BUT currently the only replacement coverage is extended to 2007 LS 460 models, but I was told to visit dealership to get this issue inspected and report the findings back to Lexus for consideration for a repair. Very clearly told, no guarantees they will take care of this, but I felt encouraged. Perhaps the will consider extending the replacement of melting parts to my 2009 LS 460. Fingers crossed.

I just discovered the 10 year repair is for only for the 2007 LS 460 and other cars so if you own a LS460 which has this issue, please call corporate. They are more likely to expand coverage for repairs IF they hear from the affected owners. Be polite. Firm, but fair will win the day.

Wanted to share my experience. I have a 2008 and my drivers door gets sticky, is a bit discolored, and recently a piece came off exposing the material underneath. I showed my service advisor at my last service and he said they would be replaced. I was pumped to say the least. After waiting around a few months, I decided to call in and check on the progress. I was informed that my vehicle was not covered and nothing was ordered. Pretty upset at that point and was told to call Lexus corporate. They listened to my concerns and told me it would take 3 days to review. They inquired about where I bought the car, had it serviced, prior Lexus owner, etc...

Their resolution was to cover half of the door replacement, leaving me with $1,000 out of pocket per door. Ridiculous. I asked if we could just to the drivers door as their cost would be the same and they told me no. I said I did not want to order it right now, so how would I go about considering their offer in the future. They said it was a now or never deal. I decided not to go off on the customer service rep as she is just the middle man, so I ended the call explaining how it made no sense that they cover one year but not another when the materials are the same.

She called me back and said she did leave the credit for me if I decide to go forward.

By the way, they said it would most likely be ONE YEAR before the parts would be available.

I am going to write a letter in next and see where it takes me. My old 98 GS never had these issues.

2008 ls460 with immaculate interior except for cracking, melting, discolored and sticky armrest X 4!

Noticed some of you are in FL and wondered what dealerships you have visited. I'm in between Palm Beach and Ft. Pierce so I have a choice.

I had basically the same problem with my '11 LS 460 (40k odometer reading) without the scratches and they replaced all 4 panels in their entirety just this month. Total bill, a little over $10k which Lexus picked up. There was never any mention of replacing part of the panels such as the arm rests. The $2k plus per panel included new computer modules, switches, etc. It was handled by JM Lexus, Margate, Fl, where I purchased the car (CPO) about 3 years ago. I will say that the serv. rep did say he never saw anything like this from Lexus. Maybe i was just lucky.

I think I may have this issue on my '11 too. If I take a microfiber cloth and wipe the handles of the door panels, The towel sticks to the handles the worst and the rest is just sticky. Its not as bad to the touch as it is when you wipe or touch something to them. I am also in hot S. FL. Are you guys saying Lexus is telling people they will only cover model year 2007 with replacement door panels?

I sure did! You said your service advisor indicated the repair you got was not the norm. From what I gather during my research about the melting dashes and panels I couldn't find the years included that are Regularly replaced not those years that are out of the realm for Lexus to regularly replace.

I would immediately take it in for Lexus to look at. They are obviously the only ones that have a say. Keep in mind that I doubt anyone at Lexus did me any favors by replacing mine. It was a corporate decision (company policy at the time) and if they did my '11, it only makes sense that they'd do yours, assuming they are in the shape of mine (stickey and faded). If you are close, take it in to JM Lexus, Margate, Fl. who got it done for me. Good luck!

There could also be something in place here that just came to mind. Perhaps Lexus is able to get some $ help from the company that made the panels.

Default 2008 sticky door panels

Bought for 32,000 three years ago from Lexus dealer. Didnt drive much due to second car. Noticed sticky door panels when hot. Have a bumper to bumper warranty, does not cover. Notified Lexus Corp, waitng for them to get back to me. Cant believe they sold this car to me knowing it had these problems.

This may be a stretch.. but... Would something like this (caused by nature - the EXACT same thing happened to my IS300 Dash, in Florida) be covered under an extension of your homeowner's policy?

BY the way.... I think I saw the OP's car in an Off Lease Only location (Car wholesaler) here in Orlando. Knew it right away from the picture.

Default 2010 LS460L sticky door panel and center console

I have a 2010 LS460L and recently noticed the arm rest part of my door panel getting sticky when my car sat outside of my job for the day. Fortunately I only drive her on Friday's and the weekend and have it parked in the garage so never really had an issue but had to drive it a few days this week bc my gs300 needs some work. I also noticed the edges of my center console are very visible as if it was caving in. I contacted Lexus corp and put in a claim. My case manager didn't make any promises but said she would do her best. She said the bulletin was only for 07-09 but with the car only having 33k miles I definitely shouldn't be having that issue.

Got a call on Friday from a specialist at the Lexus near me (lexus of tampa bay) requesting photos of my problem. I sent them over and now they have to send it to corporate so my case manager Lisa and her boss can review. Praying I get some good news! I will keep you guys updated.
